samwilson I've been running some small mediawiki sites since about 2006. It's not too hard. For about the same time, I've run some wordpress sites, and I think the maintenance processes are pretty much the same in most ways. WP does a much better job of alerting you to things that might be wrong (e.g. upgrades available etc)
