kind of thinking that with GoodReads generally handled right now, I should look into returning back to my FitBit data ownership πŸ˜„
#
[tw2113]
i already have data from last summer, but that's the last of it.

[tw2113] have you quit Goodreads? are you syndicating data there?
#
[tw2113]
likely not quitting completely, but turning more to secondary location to post to
quails left the channel
#
[tw2113]
and will just post in both places until i manage to work with the API well enough to handle in 1 place and update remotely

I've been doing things by way of PESOS for Goodreads, but my own explorations and most of what I've heard from others about their API makes doing POSSE seem awfully daunting...
#
[tw2113]
yeah, very likely
#
sknebel
morning everyone!
#
sknebel
goodreads API seems pretty neglected. although that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, especially not at single-user scale
#
[tw2113]
i'm happy i managed to find an RSS feed for my status updates πŸ˜„

What is Goodreads?
#
Loqi
Goodreads is a silo for keeping track of books, reviews, and reading progress https://indieweb.org/Goodreads
#
[chrisaldrich]
I"m wondering if we documented those feeds?
#
[chrisaldrich]
+1 for me remembering to do that! πŸŽ‰
#
[chrisaldrich]
Is that the feed format you're using [tw2113]? Or something else?
#
[tw2113]
don't believe so
#
[tw2113]
I found this, if i recall right `<link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Michael's Updates" href="https://www.goodreads.com/user/updates_rss/5295602?key=yBhuTRBOxBNHYLk19NLoGH04r2WamiMHODeou7KBUCCAIjuq" />`
#
[tw2113]
if anything that's the one i'm using
#
Ruxton
*copies Michael's key down*
#
Ruxton
whistles quietly and walks away
#
[tw2113]
not sure what you could actually do with that part, and even then, it's book data
#
Ruxton
private feed, containing anything u had private
#
Ruxton
public feed has no ?key=
#
[tw2113]
eh, nothing private that I'm aware of πŸ˜„
#
[tw2113]
anyways, bed time

welp that's a capability URL in the clear in the logs

That feed gives all of one's updates (status, bookmarks, etc.) and incidentally works without the key. The other feed I use splits out just the notes so I can get better posting fidelity. I've added the format to the GR page for future reference if anyone needs it.

#

Yes! Making progress on PESOS from IG to WithKnown
#
Zegnat
Amazing! Hope you will write up a blogpost about it, seeing how many people are still interested in crossposting with Instagram :)
#
swentel
hmm yeah, I got blocked with my server fetching instagram pages, other ways to get that working again would be great :)
#

Takes me a while to find an hour or two clear to make progress, but so far, definitely so good.

It’s odd that POSSE has come to be considered rude, even downright sleazy, on Reddit. Maybe other sites too. Probably has to do with commercial publishers overdoing it.
#
[MitchWagner]
I am now POSSEing the previous comment using the sophisticated Internet technology of β€œcut-and-paste.”
#
[MitchWagner]
No, wait, I’m PESOSing it. So confusing!

Posting to Reddit is often too much work. Seems like half my posts are rejected for some arbitrary reason, generally by a bot with no explanation of what rule I might have broken. I get that their moderators are trying to keep their subs focused, but their priority is not mine.

A building on Folsom street in SF is on fire so β€œFolsom” is trending in California & now people in the city of Folsom, CA are complaining that the hashtag is misleading
