watching The Social Dilemma on Netflix which is quite on point for IndieWeb vs silos etc.

hmm, making me rethink some POSSEing approaches

Alright, make this the next Netflix movie you watch, it's that topical and will help inspire even more ideas about how can you use IndieWeb approaches to replace any silo use-cases in your day-to-day.

The film has its own website of course. And interestingly / ironically has a Social Media presence itself!
#
[tantek]
However, plot twist, they've written an explicit code of ethics about their use of social media posts (and more) ! https://www.thesocialdilemma.com/code-of-ethics/
#
[tantek]
Frankly that's a very good set of considerations about POSSEing in general
#
[tantek]
POSSE << Consider a deliberate ethical use of POSSEing, e.g. see https://www.thesocialdilemma.com/code-of-ethics/ for an example set of explicit self-stated “Rules of engagement”

ok, I added "Consider a deliberate ethical use of POSSEing, e.g. see https://www.thesocialdilemma.com/code-of-ethics/ for an example set of explicit self-stated “Rules of engagement”" to the "See Also" section of /POSSE https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=72600&oldid=72597

tantek, is it worth sponsoring an event/watching?
#

If we set a date for IWC, maybe as a viewing the night before camp and a discussion session the following day?

[chrisaldrich] probably worth it. I didn't take notes but there's a lot of specific actionable things in there for us to both change our behavior (e.g. where we post and read), and to design our websites differently

Hello everyone! I feel like I'm late to the party, I just discovered indieweb as a thing. I've had my own spot on the web for a long time, so glad there is a community who think the same.
#
Zegnat
[Mark_Tourtello]: welcome! Sounds like you may have been part of the indieweb for a long time already then? ;) Care to share your website?

I've been around in some fashion since the mid '90s. My first indeweb was on a host in Boston,Ma called the @theworld. My site now is at mokturtle.net just a droplet in the Digital Ocean. It has languished as I've focused on other things. I was starting to work on a fresh modern workflow for updating everything and that is how I found you guys.
#
[chrisaldrich]
[James_Gallaghe] and others who are interested, the Microformats pop up session is about to move from the parsing section to actual microformats, which some might find a bit less technical/hairy and maybe more interesting from a beginner/learning perspective.

[chrisaldrich]: can't find the joining link on the events page

Let me see if I can grab one... the close time may have passed though we're still here.

I wouldn't change a service-like username for a seasonal thing that is still 1.5 months away and is not that important outside of the US.

What is StoryGraph?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "StoryGraph" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "StoryGraph is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
Zegnat
Just saw mention of https://thestorygraph.com/index.html on https://pxlnv.com/linklog/goodreads-poor-social-network/ - anyone have any experience of it as a Goodreads competitor?
