[tantek] Yeah, probably so. I’ve tried to focus on Facebook + Instagram because I feel like I’m always hearing people complain about how bad Facebook is while still using Instagram all the time, as if it’s a separate company. But YouTube has many of the same problems.

TBH IG is going to be hard for me, I get a lot of positive interactions there with keeping up with people that I don't see on Twitter or IndieWeb. I also see a much warmer, kinder, and more vulnerable side of folks on IG too. It's so different from Twitter. I did take a break from posting there, about 3 months now.

YouTube recommends conspiracy or otherwise nuts videos, has adds for conspiracy media like Epoch Times and is just overall awful in all its "social network ways". I want a YouTube noSocial add-on that just strips all that other crap out, and just works for watching the video you navigated to. Maybe that's a redirect to the embed URL instead of the main permlainks.

Your IG experience is more similar to my Twitter... But I hang with teachers so kinder place than rest of Twitter
#
[jgmac1106]
But I also think Twitter is fighting disinformation somewhat better by banning political spending and more actively labeling disinformation... Not great but ain't hard to look better than dumpster fire
#
[jgmac1106]
Tantek I never thought about YouTube good point... I share a lot of music there bc I am too afraid to share links to my servers and get in trouble
#
[jgmac1106]
The YouTube iframe on your personal website will not send recommendations if you choose option wonder if it is different if you just link to the share URL

youtube's recommendations also get a lot better the more you watch there, i haven't seen any conspiracy videos recommended unless i'm watching in an incognito window
#

so that definitely points to a problem with their platform as a whole, but in terms of your personal experience it can be pretty much invisible
#
[tantek]
not worth the time investment :P
#

also marking videos "not interested" does wonders

Wondering if anyone has any good tools that suggest colour palette contrast improvements (or other a11y improvements)? I've checked out the colour palette page, some great contrast checking tools, but I swear I've seen something recently that not only scored current ratios but also provided similar colours that might be better
#
[jgmac1106]
Yeah haven't touch my site really since March... Need to find some time
#
[jgmac1106]
Murray I am colorblind I use WebAim sometime but really I just google color safe palette and copy paste hex codes... Stark is cool almost too many features
#
[jgmac1106]
Kevin Marks writes a ton about contrast may have recommendations
#
[Murray]
Stark's new to me, looks interesting thanks 🙂 I already use a combination of Coolor and Colors for All that gets me decent coverage across colour blind issues (hopefully, at least, though I have no real way of confirming that I guess) and at least tells me contrast ratios. It's the automated suggestion element I'd really like to find (I see Stark has something along those lines, but behind a paywall)

That only gives me current contrast ratios for visible combinations. I'm looking for something to create an accessible palette from scratch, which actively suggests alternative colours that would be a better fit. Basically, Colors for All is brilliant, I just wish it showed how subtle hue/saturation changes can often tweak a ratio by quite a large amount

Given how front and center design is these days, I am still shocked that there is no “code of conduct” or guide to ethical design principles. I had my students write the Designers “Hippocratic Oath” and am sort of in love with what they came up with! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EP5lRC3UUAEI8w-.jpg

what is color palette
