LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "knitting" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "knitting is ____", a sentence describing the term)
@robinsloanI have come to suspect that slowly redesigning your website (forever) provides almost exactly the same kind of light absorption & calm satisfaction as knitting or embroidery (twitter.com/_/status/1338160419769208832)
schmuddeI'm curious - is there an independent OpenID signin that people use? I expect people here use Web sign-in. And maybe some people use the corporate players like Google or GitHub to sign into sites... but is there something else out there?
aaronpki've seen plenty of home-grown oauth providers too, the problem is without the consistent identity layer every client has to hardcode specific logic for each provider
[tantek]swentel, [eddie] I'd really like discuss and see if we can find some consensus on renaming Indigenous in 2021. I thought I'd raised this as an issue on the wiki but can't find it right now. Only record I've found is from some HWC discussion: https://indieweb.org/events/2020-08-05-hwc-west-coast#Topics
[tantek]one way to make progress is to agree on where to discuss this so we can gather & iterate on reasoning, opinions, alternatives etc. it didn't feel quite right to put it on the main /Indigenous page in an "Issues" section but perhaps that's a necessary start and we can create separate pages as needed?
[tantek]bringing this up here in the main channel because as a "flagship" example of IndieWeb Social Readers, it feels pretty impactful as part of the modern IndieWeb "experience", beyond what we might relegate to #indieweb-meta. That being said, if folks think meta is more appropriate, I'm also ok with moving the discussion there.
[tantek]swentel, do you have any strong preferences or thoughts about where/how to discuss it? on /Indigenous and here in #indieweb or in #indieweb-meta?
[eddie]Hey all. I'm fine with renaming Indigenous. It's kind of in a "unsupported" state right now, but I'm happy to go through some Apple loopholes to try to rename it. I would say, I don't feel that "misappropriation" is the right term, as the word indigenous is an adjective with many meanings.
[eddie]It wasn't named or given the purpose of claiming to be about or related to "indigenous people" (where people are the noun), but instead that it is "innate; inherent; natural" to the iOS platform. Which is a legitimate definition of the word.
[eddie]My long term plan (if I ever get the time) is to replace it with more focused individual apps, which would be named for their purposes (remark, chronicler, anthologist)
[eddie]In the short term, I don't have any great ideas for a name replacement, but if I think of something or if you all have ideas, I'm happy to go through those Apple logistics to get it renamed
[chrisaldrich]Haven't dug into heavily yet, but it looks like there's another Goodreads competitor in the space. Maybe some useful UI examples hiding in here? https://www.italictype.com/
