#[chrisaldrich][snarfed]++ for backfeed from Facebook magically appearing on my site without any work on my part after having set up the Instagram bridge many moons ago.
#Loqi[snarfed] has 30 karma in this channel over the last year (59 in all channels)
#GWG[chrisaldrich]: Will it make you posse more to Facebook?

#[fluffy]So regarding the discussion over in #meta about barriers to entry: I want to be able to interact with my friends and family without being tied to the social network they’re on but also while having more control over my experience.
#[fluffy]The partial solution via bridgy et al works OKAY but it leaves a lot to be desired with things like post privacy and so on.
#[fluffy]So in my ideal world there should be an easy turnkey indie web experience that also supports the stuff I care about and provides a less-dysfunctional interaction model than clout-chasing bullhorns
#[fluffy]Someone also shouldn’t need to be able to post in order to be able to follow. Like the old model of feed reader being separate from posting space.
#[fluffy]And I mean that’s how indieweb is, but it’s hard to get folks into that if they aren’t technically advanced.
#[tantek]re: shouldn’t need to be able to post in order to be able to follow <- we have that now with /social_readers, E.g. I'm able to use Aperture etc with my domain to follow folks without any ability to "post" using Micropub etc. The protocols have already been designed to allow for "the old model of feed reader being separate from posting space"
#[tantek]The point about domains being technically difficult / hard to maintain is an opportunity for improved UX, not a reason to abandon domains / DNS.

#[tantek]The "opposed to the idea of domain ownership being part of indieweb presence" is hard to get away from because it's literally the implementation of the responsibility for maintaining your identity, which is inherent being independent, because the alternative is delegating to corp/org/family hierarch/partner control which we know is problematic for matters of agency & abuse
#Loqihey [tantek]: would you mind moving this conversation to #indieweb-dev? thanks!
#[tantek]whoa what did I say? oh maybe implementation. was trying so hard
#[tantek]and all the alternatives to DNS are MUCH worse in terms of maintenance / setup etc. and creating yet another alternative is a windmill that's really not worth tilting at
#[chrisaldrich]getdweb.net has come up several times in channels, but I'm not sure if anyone has tinkered around with it since it was released earlier this week. Have you astrojl_matrix? What are your thoughts?

#alex11i don't believe i've ever seen that specific site
#[chrisaldrich]I bookmarked it when the site went live, but haven't had time to look at what they've released.
#[chrisaldrich]In other news, https://jonkuperman.com/gatsby-webmentions/ has a cool dark mode switch that features a blue sky with clouds and turns into a starry night when activated. I've seen some various versions of these, but this is one of the more whimsical/fun ones.
#astrojl_matrix<petermolnar "which is the problem with the wh"> this comment prompted me to read https://indieweb.org/dweb and left me thinking, I didn't realize that dweb and indeweb were considered to be so far apart...
#astrojl_matrix<[chrisaldrich] "getdweb.net has come up several "> haven't "used" it yet, just curious
