Anyone have a recommendation for a good basic domain registrar?
#
GWG
I use Namecheap, but someone has an issue with them

I ordered them via my hosting provider and transfered all domains to cloudflare.

Maybe you can also register domains on cloudflare now. (It was in Beta a year ago)

Hover is good.

I prefer wish list because it is more flexible; for today, for this month, for the rest of my life, etc.

I read Craig's newsletter about it, but not yet the thing itself.

might be interesting re: conversations on privacy https://www.manifestno.com/home
#
jacky
there's a similar one that was made in the 70s by Black queer women in Philly demanding their rights (and pushed a lot of other movements indirectly or otherwise around the world)

I'm really blanking on the name

I... I honestly don't know. I understand the wish to analyze user interaction, but from another perspective it still feels like exploitation.

I'd rather have that than rewriting every url to a google analytics redirect URL

Also, I love that stefanjuds has a a screen saver 😆

actually this is kind of interesting
#
jacky
like it even gets a header that has the origin info

why do sites show a dialog window that says something about cookies?
#
minoru_shiraeesh
there was a legislation
#
minoru_shiraeesh
but why? what does that mean?
#
jacky
what is cookie consent
#
Loqi
A cookie banner is an overlay on a website that usually covers content to inform users about the cookies which are used on a site https://indieweb.org/cookie_consent
#
alex11
it's well meaning... but yeeeeeah
#
minoru_shiraeesh
so, what am I supposed to consent to?
#
alex11
basically whether to be tracked or not
#
alex11
but it gets real irritating when it pops up on every website and a lot of them make it excessively hard to opt out
#
minoru_shiraeesh
does brave browser solve the problem?
#
minoru_shiraeesh
it shows an icon that says how many tracking things were blocked
#
[schmarty]
minoru_shiraeesh: these issues overlap and are related but not necessarily the same.

And it's not really consent because you can't meaningfully say no
#
minoru_shiraeesh
you can't meaningfully say yes either, because you don't understand what that means
#
minoru_shiraeesh
I think we can apply the following principle to legislators: if you can't afford to clearly explain the law, then you can't afford the law itself
#
minoru_shiraeesh
consent is legitimate when clearly explained, otherwise it is not legitimate
#
jacky
then the whole set in the US have to be discarded lol

GDPR was written to require meaningful consent, which is how we got the puzzle box consent forms now
