I find this timely given the discussion a week or so back https://css-tricks.com/words-avoid-educational-writing/
#

tbh I love how they do ads on css-tricks
#
jacky
like it's not _super_ noisy and I actually clicked on them because they're relevant to the content too
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
i mean, if i have to live with ads, though i don't thanks to addons, that's what i'd want

I don't know how to do a link to the Writers, tools and blogging platforms: an exchange heading at https://memex.naughtons.org/tuesday-6-april-2021-2/33463/ but it is crying out for someone more experienced than I to say something about how micropub could fulfill the need.

Ulysses, which is mentioned in that post, added Micro.blog support a couple weeks ago by the way. It does use Micropub behind the scenes, but is hardcoded to Micro.blog for now. Could be expanded later to any Micropub server. (It actually supports a lot of new-ish Micropub stuff too… mp-destination, drafts, etc.)
#
[tantek]
Neat [manton]! Even if it's hard coded it’s still worth listing on the Micropub clients page
#
Loqi
hey [manton], [tantek]: we try to keep jargon out of this channel to make it more inviting to newcomers, can you move this to #indieweb-dev?
#
[tantek]
Lol ok Loqi how about this then?

What is a photo tag
#

It looks like we don't have a page for "photo tag" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "photo tag is ____", a sentence describing the term)

I really like the clean minimal design of https://melanie-richards.com/ especially the fact that beyond the static-ish content at the top and bottom, the majority of the vertical space in the middle is "recent" and drawn from other updated parts of her site.

Note that her blog posts support Webmentions and she labels the section "Responses" (which I think is good) https://melanie-richards.com/blog/learning-log-2103/

tantek, I liked her site as well. I also appreciated how she re-framed the idea of a link log sort of post as a "learning log". (And especially liked that particular post for the introduction to a new spaced repetition web app for learning Japanese Kanji). Beyond that I'm sort of freaking out about how she's doing the images and hover effects for her books at https://highlights.melanie-richards.com/ which is an awesome effect I completely

want on my site now.

ohhh nice

yeah I think something like that is done using a vector tool (like Inkscape or an equivalent)

one could ask them!

but I think that's how I'd do it

doubt that this is something that'd be easy to automat

I'll be honest, I've got to close my browser for a bit... her website(s) are a treasure trove of too many things I want on my website so I'm going to have to take a break before I fall down too many rabbit holes and lose the entire day. Books, bucketlists, crafts... oh my.

[chrisaldrich]
What is a page?
#
Loqi
page is short for web page on the IndieWeb, and is usually primarily known by its name and kept updated in place in contrast to posts which are primarily datetime-based; a page that is browser-editable with viewable revisions is a wiki-page https://indieweb.org/page
#
[chrisaldrich]
Does anyone else have a bucketlist page?

I dislike the framing of bucket list. But maybe because I have no desire to kick the bucket, and having a long list would just make me anxious.
