Wow yes thanks for documenting, [jgmac1106]. That's so disheartening.

what is clubhouse?
#
Loqi
Clubhouse is voice only IRC https://indieweb.org/Clubhouse
#
voxpelli
Is it really voice only IRC? To me it feels like a social network where the social entities are temporary spoken word moderated IRC channels
#
voxpelli
Hi everyone by the way, long time
#
GWG
voxpelli: Nice to see you
#
voxpelli
GWG: Nice to see you being around still :)
#
GWG
voxpelli: I'm always here...well, except when I was servicing my IRC bouncer this weekend
#
voxpelli
I'm always here when IRCCloud hasn't accidentally kicked me out, paying for IRCCloud just to idle here ;P
#
voxpelli
GWG: Know if anyone has set up something Clubhouse like in the IndieWeb world?
KartikPrabhu, shoesNsocks and hs0ucy joined the channel
#
GWG
Not that I am aware of

sknebel
unless you count a mumble server, no :P
#
aaronpk
Depends on what you mean by "clubhouse-like". There's a lot more to it that just voice chat or "voice only IRC"

The see also on /Clubhouse does point to a thing called Jam https://gitlab.com/jam-systems/jam

jeremycherfas: yeah, I added it ;P
#
voxpelli
aaronpk: yeah, Clubhouse feels like a social network for temporary/momentary audio-only rooms/channels. Both spontaneous ones and scheduled ones
#
voxpelli
the social network part and the scheduled part could easily be handled within IndieWeb, but the actual "momentary audio-only room" – would that be like a video conference option on a calendar entity?
#
aaronpk
i wouldn't say "easily"
#
aaronpk
a huge part of clubhouse is the discovery aspect too, which is not something i would say we have solved
#
aaronpk
tbh the audio call is better solved than discovery right now
#
voxpelli
yeah, some kind of aggregation would be needed to have it go outside of ones personal social network
#
voxpelli
+ a really important one for that would be to announce that one is in a room and if one is speaking in that room
#
aaronpk
there's certainly many different ways to do it, but I would not say that any of them are particularly usable or well-explored at the moment
#
voxpelli
starting of with an event and having an audio-only room for it just like one could have eg. a zoom, that could perhaps be a good starting point?
#
voxpelli
then people could rsvp to it
#
voxpelli
then a discovery experience could be iterated over on top of that?
#
aaronpk
that's pretty much already how virtual HWCs work :)
#
aaronpk
post an event on events.indieweb.org, add the link to the zoom call
#
aaronpk
if you wanted to make it audio-only, it's not hard to imagine the voice call happening from within the events.indieweb.org website

#
aaronpk
but again, most of what clubhouse is isn't just that it's a voice call, it's all the UI and discovery stuff they did around it

#

aaronpk: would be interesting to sketch out some of that on the clubhouse page
#
voxpelli
Reason why I started thinking about this was that I have organised some clubhouse chats and gotten valid complaints of it's iOS-only nature

I thought I heard that Discord was doing some audio as well? I got an email about a karaoke discord for later today, so I suspect I'll find out shortly.

What is Seesmic?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Seesmic" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Seesmic is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[chrisaldrich]
Hmmm... Their original service was voice based, though it was a bit more static and async, but did better at some discovery. Maybe more like microcasts meets Twitter in flavor.
#
voxpelli
yeah, discord have permanent audio rooms
#
voxpelli
though lacks much of the social network parts
#
voxpelli
both Reddit and Twitter are launching Clubhouse clones though, which are social

and Clubhouse is revealed for what it is: a feature, not a separate thing. E.g. just like Snapchat before it.
#
jacky
Clubhouse's discovery, IIRC, is aggregating what you see from people you follow, no?
#
jacky
because I haven't seen anything "recommended" that wasn't using someone I follow as a metric
#
jacky
not too shocked that Discord had this going, they've been really good at it
