What is site death?
#
Loqi
Site deaths are when sites go offline, taking content and permalinks with them, and breaking the web accordingly https://indieweb.org/site-death
#
Loqi
ok, I added "https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2021/06/the-internet-is-a-collective-hallucination/619320/" to the "See Also" section of /site-deaths https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=76307&oldid=75978

That, by that way, brings a fascinating question to place: if one considers an entry a publication, then it shouldn't be altered without indicating the alteration, should it?

I always appreciate the little editor notes at the bottom of articles if there was a mistake or a miscalculation of some sort.

starting to see the appeal of moving one's representative h-card to a separate page
#
cambridgeport90[
You did that already, didn't you, though?
#
[jacky]
no this is a first for me
#
[jacky]
conventionally, I had it defined on my homepage
#
cambridgeport90[
I'll be keeping an eye on it, then.
#
[jacky]
but I think now I want my homepage to be what a 'now' page is and mess around with it
#
cambridgeport90[
Nice. I still need to create one of those... that is, after I manage to fix the 500 error message that my site currently displays. LOL

[tantek]
jacky, I think you might mean something other than "representative h-card" as that has a specific meaning in the context of a specific page (not a site).
#
[tantek]
and that's likely to be a more #indieweb-dev -y conversation
#
[tantek]
what is a profile?
#
Loqi
Your homepage represents you on the web, typically at the top of your domain, with your name and an iconic representation, often marked up with h-card, and fairly commonly one or more streams of recent, topical, or most relevant posts marked up with h-entry https://indieweb.org/profile
#
[tantek]
^ might be worth making /profile its own page rather than a redirect and distinguishing that
#
[tantek]
what is about
#
[tantek]
apparently a prepositional stop word for loqi
#
[tantek]
what is about page
#
Loqi
"About" is a commonly occurring page or section on a site that provides an introduction, overview, or summary of the site https://indieweb.org/about_page
#
[tantek]
^ jacky, that might be more what you're looking for
#
[tantek]
"โ€ฆ On a personal site, this would be usually be in the form of an expanded h-card about the person."
#
Loqi
friendly reminder [tantek], can you move the tech talk (Microformats) to #indieweb-dev to keep this channel more inclusive and inviting?

Performance typically refers to the speed, responsiveness, and initial load of a website; performance may also refer to the post type, performance https://indieweb.org/performance

with webmentions - is it something you set up on your own website so you can comment on people's stuff or is there an account you can make, or does webmentions allow anonymous comments?
#
aaronpk
webmentions are a link from one site to another, there's no "account" or "anonymous" anything
#
aaronpk
if a site lets people make posts without being logged in, and that site sends webmentions, you could consider that "anonymous" comments
#
alex11
i may be confusing it with something else
