# [tantek]1 Does anyone have any experience with using /Nextdoor to as a sort of virtual hyperlocal garage sale / sharing thing? E.g. I know that most things donated to Goodwill etc. end up thrown away or worse shipped overseas (costing more carbon) to get landfilled in another country e.g. https://www.vox.com/the-goods/22700581/aja-barber-consumed-book-fast-fashion-ghana
# [tantek]1 This is another use-case for semi-private perhaps even geo-fenced posts
# [tantek]1 Like I have a bunch of stuff I'm willing to sell cheap (or even give away) to "neighbors" who can easily stop by, and don't want to the hassles of either shipping (eBay) or coordinating with folks who have to make a special trip out of town. The goal here is to increase re-use of "stuff" and reduce landfill (environmental), without having to publish it all publicly.
# [tantek]1 A few years ago I did publish (on only Instagram I think? before I was owning my own photos) a few posts of jackets, t-shirts with interesting designs, and a few of them did actually elicit responses from folks (in all cases, people who I already knew in person)
# [tantek]1 yeah I was hoping there was a non-Facebook solution to this 😕
# [tantek]1 (hence why this feels IndieWeb ontopic-ish)
# [tantek]1 Have you acquired anything through any of those? And what is the observed success rate of such posts (i.e. what rough % of items posted like that are claimed by someone?)
# [tantek]1 Yeah I think these more modern approaches have some advantages over Craigslist. I believe I used a local Netnews group for this kind of thing like in the 1990s, and was about 80% effective at that time (there were fewer alternatives) for getting rid of things when moving out of a shared rental house. At the end I left things neatly arranged / labeled on a front yard and in the posting told folks they could pick things up and just let me
# [tantek]1 know.

# [tantek]1 I may be able to join this morning for a bit after all
# [tantek]1 Is there time to get a coffee or have intros already started?
# [tantek]1 So weird about the slack bridge
# [tantek]1 Ok GWG, you picked the shirt I should wear
# capjamesg[d] I wish I could be there everyone but I am on holiday without a laptop 😂
# capjamesg[d] I could code with the GitHub mobile app but that might not be the best idea haha.
# capjamesg[d] My first “going away” holiday in a year.
# capjamesg[d] Still in the UK though and being careful.
# capjamesg[d] Is there much chatting going on in the call?
# capjamesg[d] I can join to listen in for a bit 🙂
# [tantek]1 "take this *face* value" — I see what you did j12t
# [tantek]1 GWG, you were the one that said microformats
# [tantek]1 waits for Loqi's admonishment
# [chrisaldrich] There's a fair amount of chat at the opening for introductions capjamesg, but folks are prone to become quite thereafter. Stop in and say hi if you're inclined.
# capjamesg[d] Joining…
# [tantek]1 My site is tantek.com and I'm going to be working on fixing my home page /photo_grid. As a harder project, I may work on a static file based wiki pages solution, in-progress brainstorming here: https://indieweb.org/wiki-projects#Static_Pages_Plus_HTTP_Headers

# capjamesg[d] No emojis?
# doubleloop Hi - my website is doubleloop.net / commonplace.doubleloop.net and I'm going to look at adding simple microformatting to the pages in my wiki / digital garden.
# capjamesg[d] Yay! I thought I had broken something…
# [chrisaldrich] Putting emojis into the etherpad will cause it to crash (at least for you, not generally for everyone)
# capjamesg[d] My sincere apologies!
# capjamesg[d] That’s an odd bug.
# [chrisaldrich] What is Letterboxd?
# Loqi Letterboxd is a silo for keeping track of films and reviews in what they call a "film diary" https://indieweb.org/Letterboxd

# capjamesg[d] read-of is interesting. Trying to think of ways to use it in IndieWeb Search if I can.
# jeremyrader Hey everyone, I've been to a few homebrew meetings but not to a create day. I can't join now, but I plan to later in the day. What does that look like? Is everyone just quietly working on their projects during the call or do people present what they've got done throughout the day?
# maxwelljoslyn[d] [chrisaldrich]: ughhh
# capjamesg[d] Maybe consume-of should be a generic format for these sorts of things.
# capjamesg[d] (Not trying to invent a new format here)
# capjamesg[d] (Just an idea that I think is interesting)
# tracydurnell[d] jeremyrader: Hey Jeremy, we'll be doing a lunch break at noon pacific and chatting then, and around 4pm pacific doing demos (but also can do demos earlier in the day)
# jeremyrader Perfect, I'll definitely check in during the lunch break.
# [chrisaldrich] There is an audio/video stream and folks may be chatting sporadically in real-time throughout the day too.
# Jeremiah[d] https://micro.blog/discover/books/grid
# Jeremiah[d] there's also a discover grid

# tracydurnell[d] I'm not using Twitter much these days but looks like who I'm following is a good spread!

# [KevinMarks] consume-of is a bit too general, and also wrong in that media aren't consumed by being watched or read, they're grown
_inky joined the channel
# [chrisaldrich] When there's a break in the chat, we should all get a group photo here while we have a nice quorum. (and maybe again at lunch and demo time?)
# capjamesg[d] Very true. I would love to see a format for reading / listening / watching.
# [tantek]1 what is project management?
# Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "project management" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "project management is ____", a sentence describing the term)

# jamietanna Hey folks, I'm not sure I'll be officially joining in for Create Day, but I may try and get some time to work on my RSVP Calendar that I'm making publicly available - does anyone publish a feed/page of their RSVPs that are Microformats2'd up that I can test with?
