Yikes. I used hosted ghost a few years back and really liked them. I then started using ghost self hosted. I used to recommend it to people because it was simple enough for most and flexible enough for people going a little outside of standard website. I'm trying to convince friends to do it themselves with static site generators though.

Apparently Twitter is putting tweets into my timeline from people who follow me whom I have no other connection to
#

"Jack...we gotta engage Aaron more...what should we do?" "Put people who follow him...into his timeline" "But sir, he doesn't follow them back!" "DID I STUTTER?!?!?!"
#
aaronpk
oops I did a bad English. That should have been "to whom I have no other connection"?
#
[tw2113_Slack_]
whew, my fake dialog wasn't ruined by that correction 😄

aaronpk, similarly frustrated with Twitter this morning, putting random tweets from people I follow into my *notifications*
#
[tantek]
typically tagged with some topic. so I keep clicking the "..." and "See less often"

Just had a great indieweb idea. What if we could make a new stumbleupon that randomly want to urls from your friends like posts?
#

I see not many of your reacted to the register link above, but it's quite important for us: it seems like the EU wants to put it in law that during domain registration people must give their real physical addresses. If it's not valid, the domain could be lost, and I have no idea if anyone will be able to register one without a physical address at all.
#
[tantek]
aggregating your friends's (followings) /response posts would make a great /reader feature, especially if it could bubble up the posts/articles that are receiving the most responses from your followings
#
[tantek]
petermolnar, or people who want physical address security will use non-EU registrars
#
[tantek]
physical address privacy*
#
petermolnar
> will use non-EU registrars
#
petermolnar
That is not how EU laws work; any EU country TLD will need to follow it, eg. .de, .hu, .eu.
#
capjamesg[d]
I love that idea [grantcodes].
#
nekr0z
petermolnar: .org, .me, .com and hundreds of other options remain. If EU doesn't want the money I'd be paying for my domain, someone else gets it ;-)
#
petermolnar
moving TLD was not simple for me to be honest, so this is kind of a painful move
#
[tantek]
what are short domains
#
Loqi
short domains are commonly used on the IndieWeb for personal URL shortening, or clever domain hacks https://indieweb.org/short-domains
#
[tantek]
what is cctld
#
[tantek]
well that's a bit of a wiki-mess. -> #indieweb-meta
#
[grantcodes]
Did think it might be possible for you to do [capjamesg] with your indexing. But don't want to force that upon you 😄
#
nekr0z
<petermolnar> "moving TLD was not simple for me..." <- which is why I never went with my country's TLD in the first place, and advise everyone against it ;-)
#
Zegnat
I think maybe that was already a requirement for the .se domain. For .no you are not even allowed to register it unless you are a legal entity within Norway IIRC. Lots of ifs and buts with domains
#
[tantek]
yes these are good arguments against ccTLDs
#
[tantek]
now if we only had a ccTLD specific page... (going to fix that in #indieweb-meta)

I just found a bag of old boarding passes. Wondering if this is worth adding to my website

If I cross match them to photos from the trip if I can find them
#
[tantek]
GWG, as /photo or /receipt posts perhaps?
#
[tantek]
lol I just got an /IG ad from "Ledger" that starts with "What is the metaverse?" that essentially rips off the entire description from Snow Crash (1992) and adds zero additional content/value, without citation of course.
#
GWG
[tantek]: I always think of it as more trip posting
#
GWG
Trying to document memories
#
[tantek]
GWG, I believe as we've discussed before, a /trip post is a form of collection of various things (including photos and receipts)
#
[tantek]
there's no "as more" to it, they are different aspects
#
GWG
I just don't know if I find receipts as interesting as boarding passes
#
GWG
But personal preference
#
[tantek]
boarding passes are receipts of a sort, that's what I mean
#
GWG
I have three boxes of stuff to scan. So some will be appearing in future
#
GWG
I have a lot of interesting material to fill in years of my website
#
GWG
I really want my /thisweek and /onthisday features to go back further
#
GWG
[tantek]: When is the oldest post on your site dated?
#
[tantek]
it's an interesting question. presumably you mean published date?
#
GWG
Yes
#
GWG
Though I have dated things earlier and noted a later updated date
#
[tantek]
GWG, oldest I could find is from my very old occasional notes archive, and oldest of those was written 1999-08-11
#
GWG
I am hoping to fill in eve and older
#
GWG
even older
#
[tantek]
what is backfill
#
Loqi
backfill is the action of importing all your past posts, typically from a social media silo, into your own site https://indieweb.org/backfill
#
[tantek]
what is who can reply
#
Loqi
who can reply is a 2020 feature of Twitter that allows the author of a tweet to explicitly choose from a set of options of which accounts Twitter will allow in their UI to reply and thus show replies from; the IndieWeb equivalent could be implemented with some combination of allow lists and Vouch https://indieweb.org/who_can_reply
