Interesting design steer from Doug Bowman on threads https://twitter.com/stop/status/1459660906514636803?s=20

One of my twitter accounts must be in a test group for this new FB-like timeline design. Super uncomfortable browsing experience. We tried designs showing tweets like this a few times (pfp and name stacked on top of full-width tweet), but they didn’t make it out of design review.

I see that Slack follows this model too

I am in this 'test group' too and I don't like it. But it's a nice nudge to look into IndieWeb readers again

I am doing that too Seb[d] but right now do not know which template(s) I need to edit to add the link to <head> in WithKnown.

Seb[d]
wait I saw that message in the #known channel

What is a digital garden?
#
Loqi
A commonplace book (or commonplaces) are a way to compile and store knowledge, usually by writing information into books, notebooks, card catalogs, or in more modern settings on one's own website https://indieweb.org/digital_garden

Do we have a good wiki page on “old school” blogging? (I.e. Kottke or Rebecca Blood)
#
jeremycherfas
I mean, it could possibly do with a little work, but it covers the basics. What did you have in mind capjamesg[d] ?
#
jeremycherfas
There are links there to Rebefcca Blood on the history of blogging, among other things.

I don't fully understand the difference between /blog and /blogging but somebody may have a clear view.

aaronpk: re that threading this, could you cheat with that by having a custom channel for it? I figure you'd have timestamps so you could emulate the in-reply-to by looking for a post in the same channel that was made before it
#
[jacky]
*that threading this = that threading of notes but doing it offline
#
aaronpk
A tag would do that too, but o don't want to cheat :-)

I am working on a dark mode for my site. I'd love some feedback!
#
sp1ff
I like it. For me, the red (title, headings) stands out less than the green (links, post-title) against the background, which seems a bit off
#
sp1ff
Also, I wonder if people who are red/green color-blind might have issues?
#
capjamesg[d]
This is my first foray into dark mode. Thanks for the brief on red/green color-blindness. I forgot about that!
#
capjamesg[d]
This is v2:
#
capjamesg[d]
I removed the red and the orange in the navigation bar.
#
sp1ff
Oh! That color pops out much more. Nice
#
capjamesg[d]
I am going to trigger this with the prefers-color-scheme css class.
#
sp1ff
I really need to learn css
#
capjamesg[d]
I only recently found out about the class. It triggers certain CSS rules when a user prefers dark color schemes.
#
sp1ff
How does the user indicate that?
#
Seb[d]
(it is not a class but a media-query)
#
Seb[d]
On macOS and iOS it's a system-wide setting. But it really is a browser setting somewhere, I would say. (I put mine on 'follow the OS')

I love darkmode. It does highlight sites that do not have it, because you are browsing the internet in dark mode and suddenly something will be completely white

Seb[d]
for example, the IndieAuth spec.

should be an easy fix

filter: invert(100%) on the body almost works :P

just needs a black background set and the hues-of-blue IWC logo is not quite right :D

oh that's pretty neat. works on my computer, for now :)

Is it possible to entirely manipulate the theme of a page with CSS hiding / showing?
#
capjamesg[d]
I saw adactio.com has different themes. The HTML stays the same but the CSS changes the positioning.
#
capjamesg[d]
I am trying to do this but can't quite figure it out.

What is a bumper sticker?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "bumper sticker" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "bumper sticker is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[chrisaldrich]
hmmm... I'm looking for something /fun and indiewebby like: "My other blog is a tumblr."
