what is unlisted
#
Loqi
unlisted are publicly visible posts that are not included in a homepage or feed(s), and are typically excluded from site search features and broader web search services https://indieweb.org/unlisted
#
[tantek]
there's a variant of that that's slightly less unlisted, where a post is not shown in feeds (or home page stream), yet is still in archives
#
[tantek]
I think that needs a different term and we don't really have one AFAIK
#
[tantek]
Strava calls this option on a post "Mute Activity" (all their posts are called "activities" for context, as in "physical activity")
#
[tantek]
and their label for the checkbox is: "Don't publish to Home or Club feeds [ ]"
#
[tantek]
their notion Home feed is kinda like other social media "home" feeds which means the aggregate "feed" of everyone's activities (posts) you're following
#
[tantek]
their Club feeds are what shows up when someone views a "Club" that you've joined, that is, an aggregation of everyone's activities (posts) who has joined the Club
#
[tantek]
(there are "Clubs" for cities, brands, sports teams, fitness groups, etc. and anyone can create a new club, like we could have an "IndieWeb" club on Strava if we wanted)
#
[tantek]
some ideas for this option or kind of post:
#
[tantek]
'unfed' (as in both not sent to any feeds, and funny enough, not federated to anyone/anywhere else either)
#
[tantek]
'muted' (following the Strava heading, like self-muting. this one doesn't quite sound right to me, because "muting" is already overloaded for "don't notify me about this post / person's posts" etc.)
#
gRegor
Yeah, like the sound of muted better than 'unfed', but overloaded
#
[tantek]
any other ideas? I'd like to screenshot/document the Strava example, and this is an option I've considered implementing for some posts (i.e. posts that are unlisted but I explicitly do want them in my archives and thus browseable/navigable that way)
#
[tantek]
also such posts would obviously not be POSSEd anywhere
#
[tantek]
this is a concern when you feel like you might be posting "too much" and don't want to "spam" your own home page or your feeds
#
gRegor
"hidden from stream"? not as nice as one word, but...
#
[tantek]
unstreamed ?
#
[tantek]
somewhat parallel to unlisted
#
gRegor
Hmm, maybe
#
[tantek]
I'm also on the fence as to whether I'd want it in sequential navigation
#
[tantek]
I *think* I would
#
[tantek]
the "weird" thing about Strava's option is that they conflate your profile and your archive so their UI copy says "This activity will still be visible on your profile" which I'm treating as meaning "your archive"
#
[tantek]
I think I *do* want such posts to show up (be a part of) sequential navigation
#
[tantek]
I don't see why I'd want a post to show up in archives but *not* sequential navigation or vice versa
#
[tantek]
gRegor, ok captured for now in a brainstorm on unlisted: https://indieweb.org/unlisted#unlisted_yet_in_archives_and_nav
#
[tantek]
if we can figure out a good name, I'm happy to move that to a separate page

[Murray]
nice little blog discovery site: https://ooh.directory/

[iambismark]
Unbroadcast? Unshared? Findable?
#
[snarfed]
A number of us do this already, eg my replies/likes/follows skip my feed
#
[snarfed]
I think this is already on the wiki somewhere, not sure
#
[snarfed]
"quiet"
#
aaronpk
"unlisted but in archives" doesn't sound like unlisted to me
#
aaronpk
"unlisted" means there's no way to navigate to it

[Miriam Suzanne] #Indieweb commies want you to think personal websites are 'hip', but there's no # money # gain # profit in being a human person (online). That's why I'm advocating for 💰Impersonal Websites 💰, to promote more business-business business profit (o...

lol I know Miriam from CSSWG

wow somehow i have never seen that XKCD before
#
[tantek]
I think that might need to go on business model
#
barnaby
it’s kinda a whole sub-series where white-beret does business things which don’t make much sense
#
barnaby
one of my favourite xkcd running jokes
#
[tantek]
[snarfed] your "quiet" according to https://snarfed.org/2019-07-11_something-quiet excludes the posts from archives & search. These "unstreamed" (my fave so far) posts would still show up in archives & search
#
Loqi
ok, I added "https://front-end.social/@mia/109396336421876498 https://business-business.business/" to the "See Also" section of /lulz https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=84617&oldid=84430
#
[tantek]
interesting, Loqi expanded the whole post there in the wiki add, but truncated the preview here in chat
#
aaronpk
chat is limited to IRC message length
#
[tantek]
what is IRC message length?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "IRC message length" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "IRC message length is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
also Miriam's site header 😂 https://www.miriamsuzanne.com/
#
barnaby
oooh their Style Layers thing is really nice

I followed Loura's site, saw this: https://notes.busterbenson.com/life-in-weeks - I absolutely love this page. I always wanted a "life events" entry, but I had trouble visualizing it; this is pure genious.

Bridgy Fed development has been moving pretty fast recently. I'm pretty confident in the testing coverage of federation/webmentions, both directions, and I get alerts on crashes, but still, pls ping me if anything doesn't work or looks off!
