My website almost supports Stories.

What is a story?
#
Loqi
A story is a singular (one per profile) time stream collection post, that consists of ephemeral photo and video posts that are shown in sequence one at a time and disappear from the collection some time after being added, usually 24 hours https://indieweb.org/story

I don't use stories on all the silos myself and I do never view those stories from others. If the content of a person I'm subscribed to is not worth it to stay "forever" (nothing is forever I know), than I'm not interested in it. And I don't wan't to trigger any fomo feelings, so I'll never start to care abput those.
#
capjamesg
I like stories because they are ephermal; my ideal setup would be private stories.

Stories are working now!

You may want to choose a different border color and make the border thicker so it's more noticeable

Thanks for the idea for a future article "Why Ephemeral Content is the Devil" 🙂
#
capjamesg
It comes down to preference.
#
capjamesg
I have all my IG stories saved but I'm not going to publish them on the web.
#
capjamesg
But I was more than comfortable publishing them as stories.

[chrisbergr] We have some criticism of stories already in the weekend. Feel free to add a link when you write your own!
#
[chrisbergr]
I guess you meant Wiki instead of Weekend. Yes, I will of course add my criticism there as soon as it is published. Vika already had some good words for it too, but there's more. I mean, do you know people who, when meeting in person, have the expectation that you know every single piece of information from all their storyposts from WhatsApp? Who then get really pissed off when you don't even know what they're referring to....
#
[chrisbergr]
^ Subsequent mention [aciccarello] 🙂

Lol, yes wiki

I dislike that my family shares most things on stories as it means I'm out of the loop. IDK if people expect it but I wish I could keep up without being in Instagram every day.
#
capjamesg
One way I'd counter Vika's " lead to fear that she will miss content if she isn’t opening the app related to the content frequently" is that my Stories will be a feed.
#
capjamesg
Thus, nobody misses out on anything; web visitors may be surprised with an image, too.
#
capjamesg
But it would be a separate feed, and perhaps with a restricted audience.
#
[chrisbergr]
[aciccarello] I've had strange moments with different people, all because of whatsapp stories. Mostly family, too 🙂
#
[chrisbergr]
capjamesg What happens to the feed entries when they expire?
#
[chrisbergr]
do they only expire in the html view on your site?
#
capjamesg
That's what will happen; I'm not that far along yet.
#
capjamesg
I don't want my Stories to me ephermal. It's okay if
#
[chrisbergr]
the feed will be private and every story will stay there forever and the stories on your site will be public but ephermal, do I get this right?
#
capjamesg
That's what I'm thinking.
#
[chrisbergr]
Why? When I visit your site and don't have access to the private feed, your story gives me a little insight into what I'm missing by not being in the club. Right?

Thankfully I've not experienced FOMO with missing stories or had friends give me grief for not being up to date on theirs. I find them handy for long-distance friends to get a peek into their day to day life that they wouldn't otherwise post pictures of in their main feed.

What tech companies can do: "ntentionally design technology that fosters healthy dialogue and relationships, including across diverse communities and perspectives. The designs should prioritize social health and safety as the first principle, from conception to launch to evaluation."

Maybe worth documenting somewhere on the wiki?
