Allie, I would not call any SSG "friendly" as in user-friendly, as in something a non-developer can setup, maintain, and use successfully. Even 11ty requires "three [command line] commands" and having "npm on your machine" which are both #indieweb-dev skills. I'd say any SSG conversation should be done exclusively in #indieweb-dev until someone has reduced the command line and developer library/toolchain dependencies to zero.

Allie
okay it seems like this might not be the community for me in this case

The IndieWeb is about both technical and non-technical solutions. We regularly discuss technical topics, but it is important to keep in mind that we want to reach beyond people with technical proficiency in any particular subject matter. Thus, we typically have technical discussions in another channel.

Allie, no, this is the right community, just not the right chat channel. Jump into #indieweb-dev and all discussions of SSG and which ones are more/less friendly, who uses which one why/how are very much welcome!

Allie
I don't think I want to have that discussion.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question? "is anyone doing anything friendly in this [SSG] space?"

If you're asking about non command line tools for SSG's, there are some eg https://gethugothemes.com/forestry-alternatives-for-hugo
