Capjamesg back in the day there were lots of Twitter hosted events. Lots of "Tweetups"
#
[tantek]
Where "Tweeps" could meet & follow each other
#
[tantek]
There were also IG user meetups too. They (the users) were called IGers

I was an early participant in IGersSF: https://instagram.com/igerssf

It would nice if one could POSSE to and backfill from Threads, but I’m not holding my breath.
#
[snarfed]
[jeremycherfas] if it connects with the fediverse, don't POSSE, federate with it!
#
[jeremycherfas]
It would be wonderful if newly revitalised WithKnown were to have a plugin to federate.

Still cannot believe this is a serious sentence "Twitter no longer has a press department. Questions sent to the former email address received a poop emoji as the auto-response."

🐦💩 as a response from twitter would be much more meaningful, than mere 💩

honest question regarding Threads (apart from Meta being part of the Thread home automation protocol and Instagram apparently already had an app called Threads https://techcrunch.com/2021/11/17/instagram-will-shut-down-its-companion-app-threads-by-year-end/ , sure, glorious name): why does anyone care?
#
petermolnar
there's so much buzz and hype around "new" social networks that are "like X 15 years ago" that is just absurd for me
#
petermolnar
it's not the social shit I want back from 15 years ago, it's the new dead communities that were pushed into oblivion by these social things or that became an unusable, unsearchable, noisy FB group

(I know I'm not in -chat, I think this is on topic)

caring about any of them (as in implementing bridges, POSSE, PESOS, etc solutions) will just help repeating the cycle

the only "benefit" I'd see if it - Thread - allows users to automatically re-post their instagram content, meaning instagram content would be possible to be read through activitypub, but I'm finding it hard to believe Meta would want this to happen

if Thread federates then it might provide some improved levels of interop, and reach, so I can understand the hope there. I feel its doubtful this will be allowed, but we'll see. A few people have pointed out that simply having a large instance on the Fediverse would aid Meta's ability to data-scrape the whole network, which may be business case enough to allow for true federation

The reason I am interested in Threads is because I have a podcast that I would like to be able to put in front of lots of people, in the hope that some will find it worthwhile.

If I can also communicate casually with that community, so much the better.
