breadth of content types! eg the fediverse, Bluesky, and Nostr don't understand bookmarks (among others), we can't yet POSSE them there, but we can happily post them on our own sites

[preview] [snarfed] Oof, not good. Sorry for the trouble! On first glance, it looks like some of this is post types that the fediverse doesn't understand. Eg your first example here is a bookmark, which BF faithfully converts to a bookmark in AS2 and delivers to your...

On that subject, I'm wondering if I should be posting things differently. I like the idea of bookmarking links with a thought, but maybe the thought should be separate.
#
[aciccarello]
It feels like something that is fine on my own site because I can control it but that gets more complicated when interacting with other sites
#
[aciccarello]
Here's an example of a bookmark that could also be considered an individual note https://www.ciccarello.me/posts/2023/09/25/css-darkgray/
#
Loqi
[preview] [Anthony Ciccarello] Today I learned that the standard CSS definition for gray is darker than darkgray. πŸ™ˆ Turns out things can get inconsistent if you combine two different lists of color names.
#
[snarfed]
or alternatively, should BF do something different with post types like bookmarks that it knows won't show up in some destinations like the fediverse
#
[aciccarello]
The way mastodon renders articles is definitely disappointing...
#
[aciccarello]
I'd rather they fix that then have bridgy-fed render everything as a note...
#

friendly reminder [aciccarello], would you mind moving this conversation (renders, render) to #indieweb-dev? thanks!

looking for some UX design advice for Bridgy Fed. is that better for here or #indieweb-dev?
#
[snarfed]
I'm redesign BF user pages and feed links (eg on eg https://fed.brid.gy/web/snarfed.org ) a bit. tentative plan is to simplify to three top tabs: my profile and activity, feed, and notifications, each with separate subscribe-able feeds. feedback is welcome

I like the idea of separating those out
#
[aciccarello]
Would notifications be things like replies and likes?
#
gRegor
[snarfed], sounds good. The feed links could be in a dropdown labeled "Subscribe" and then there's options for each of the formats
#
[snarfed]
basically moving it more toward standard social media UI and terminology

Happy to help with UX suggestions for the BF profile page!

[snarfed] re: "eg the fediverse, Bluesky, and Nostr don't understand bookmarks (among others), we can't yet POSSE them there, but we can happily post them on our own sites" <-- every post type should have a plain text design equivalent that you can use to POSSE to destinations that don't support more specific post types

since design will get into dev very quickly, I'll go into more detail there
