i hate that they took that space jam site down for the new lesser movie, but i'm glad they kept it up at least in a different space on the domain

[KevinMarks] I didn't find any indieweb relevance in Ethan's article you linked. There's bits about community & governance but that's more #indieweb-meta at best in terms of any applicability to indieweb tbh
#
[tantek]
I came here to ask what's the best way to link to a podcast and noticed that we have an example in the newsletter!
#
[tantek]
The newsletter draft for today links to https://huffduffer.com/adactio/678534

Which has a direct play button, which makes me wonder if Huffduffer supports media fragment time offset links (?t=), like YouTube does
#
[tantek]
Has anyone tried?

I showed you how to do that the other day - hotlink the mp3 file with the #t=start, end in seconds in your own <audio> tag https://www.kevinmarks.com/hotlinkmp3.html
#
[tantek]
Except that required linking to an external service that I've never heard of
#
[tantek]
And it had poor UX. Just a plain audio mp3 with player and zero context in the browser
#
[tantek]
Compare for example the UX to linking to a ?t= URL on YouTube
#
[tantek]
While that probably has too much context (distraction), it's better than zero, and it's a link that others would consider copy pasting & sharing.
#
[tantek]
A long gibberish audio mp3 URL with zero context and uninviting UI (small player on an otherwise empty dark page) feels ugh and I certainly wouldn't feel motivated to share it to others

I don't even want to send readers to such a destination because part of that bad UX reflects on the person linking to it. Why did you send me to an ugly URL with an unpleasant/dead looking page?
#
[KevinMarks]
That was the link from the original podcast; it works with the simpler one huffduffer found too. You get the browser UI for the audio, so it looks a bit different in safari/firefox/chrome, true. The point was to show that you can inline embed extracts in the text. There are various js viewers that will give you more complicated players, yes, but there is a declarative html way to do it.
#
[tantek]
Anyway I’m sitting next to Jeremy so I asked him and no, Huffduffer does not (yet) support ?t= or other media fragment formats on podcast permalinks
#
[KevinMarks]
if he did, he'd likely translate it to #t= offsets unless he wants to mung mp3's himself.

Indieweb is a very high result for Google search for media fragment standard, and much more useful than the web spec which has PAGES of long paragraph prose before anything useful 🤦‍♂️
#
[tantek]
More on media fragment syntax in #indieweb-dev and more on wikifying tech like that in #indieweb-meta

ok, I added "Example: simple design single page site with lots of responsive design for various widths / aspect ratios: https://lip.pe/" to the "See Also" section of /design https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=90026&oldid=89967

I was about to send an old blogpost about it, but it turns out that only describes the Micropub part, which I broke in the conversion from TikTokBot (not related) to Telegram
#
[sebsel]
I only get the notifications now, when I either create a post or receive a webmention
#
[sebsel]
what is TikTokBot?
#
Loqi
TikTokBot is an IRC and Slack bot API written by Aaron Parecki https://indieweb.org/TikTokBot
#
[sebsel]
Won’t nerd out further, as it is not dev here, but the API of Telegram is very similar so my old code worked without much alteration
#
Loqi
friendly reminder [sebsel], it seems like this conversation is more appropriate for #indieweb-dev (Micropub, API)
