cambridgeport90_þI have an idea at some point here in the not-too-distant future,I want to set up my site to link to my NextCloud backend for storage of files. Is that stillIndieweb,as long as the file backend is hosted by me?
cambridgeport90Just wondering...is there a point to using short URLs anymore, even if you host your own URL shortener through something like YOURLS or Hum? (thinking about either option over here). I have CP90.us as my short URL,and I like to use it even on the Fediverse (regardless of whether or not mastodon counts short urls as characters against your post, though I don't run my internet life based on what one software packages tells us the rules should
cambridgeport90(then not sure whether I'm gonna change my short url from .us (got that on a whim, think it was due to something that gwg posted on his site) to .tech.)
cambridgeport90I would love to be able to avoid the t.co shortening on Twitter/X,though not sure how I'm even gonna do that yet, considering my API key was taken away due to "excessive automation..."
cambridgeport90BTW, love the personal domains article...I can say that there was a school in new Hampshire which my cousin went to which had technical education built in; I need to call him anyway at some point, so will ask him which one it was and whether they still do have that course available. I'll add it to the wiki if he says yes.
capjamesgI haven't found a use for short domains. I thought about having one but I like how my domain is easy to pronounce, type, and remember vs. an arbitrary sequence of characters that represent the shortest domain I can get that makes some sense.
[tantek]there are many use-cases for short domains. just because one use-case doesn't matter to you personally does not refute the entire technique (and the rest of the use-cases)
