# 10:52 mahboubine joining irc has gotten me interested in all kinds of retro web stuff
# 10:53 mahboubine > I am planning to make a neocities site that's super colorful and old school (despite having a regular site)
# 10:54 mahboubine > I installed RSS guard and added my favorite blogs, if I get everything I need I may stop browsing social media all together

# 13:01 mahboubine What's the best language/framework to make an indieweb website
# 13:02 mahboubine Currently I am implementing webmentions in my blog built with react & nextJS. I am looking to rebuild the site with something else
# 13:02 Loqi hey mahboubine, I don't mean to be a bother, but framework, React seems like a better conversation for #indieweb-dev

# 15:12 [tantek] sebbu what was the indieweb relevance of the missing tower? Otherwise we usually try to post informal links like that in #indieweb-chat

# 18:03 [aciccarello] Someone on Mastodon just found my website post via the tags that BridgyFed picked up. Really cool to see that working. [snarfed]++

# 18:29 _tommys what is BridgyFed?
# 18:29 Loqi Bridgy Fed connects IndieWeb sites with Mastodon & other fediverse instances, allowing users on those networks to follow your IndieWeb site, including receiving notifications, reading, and replying to your posts https://indieweb.org/bridgyfed

# 20:56 capjamesg What about hosting an open Discord room in which people can share when they make coffee?
# 20:57 capjamesg May be an interesting anchor for people to serendipitously meet that may not otherwise.
# 20:57 capjamesg Context that wasn't documented: The idea of livestreaming making coffee has come up twice this week.

# 21:00 starrwulfe There was someone in Japan that actually did that during the pandemic. A few times a week he'd just livestream a feed from his coffee shop in my old neighborhood and you'd see him roasting beans or cleaning a grinder before business hours and then he'd be running back and forth outside to make orders and serve people -- no one was allowed inside due to the health unknowns at the time.
# 21:15 [tantek] starrwulfe do you use Matrix with your personal website?
# 21:16 starrwulfe Nope. At least not yet. I was investigating Matrix comments at one point but decided to work on getting Webmentions, ActivityPub and ATProto going first.
# 21:21 [tantek] mahboubine, there is a time-honored history of folks using chat (whatever service or standard) as a UI for posting to their personal websites, and in some cases seeing replies/notifications, and in others as a reader!
[KevinMarks] joined the channel
# 21:23 starrwulfe Mahboubine -- Long range I'd like to use Matrix (and Telegram) to post to my site and get notifications. Perhaps even reply to comments, all as an IM for myself. Not necessarily thinking about outward-facing comminications though
# 21:23 Loqi Mahboubine has -1 karma over the last year
# 21:24 [tantek] aww no dash dash em-dashes when addressing people! Mahboubine++
# 21:24 Loqi Mahboubine has 0 karma over the last year
# 21:24 [tantek] Twitter used to fully support posting and reading via XMPP. it was glorious
# 21:25 starrwulfe That probably means ATProto will do it at some point. I can kinda do this with ActivityPub now actually.
# 21:25 Loqi hey [tantek], starrwulfe: it seems like this conversation is more appropriate for #indieweb-dev (XMPP, ActivityPub)
# 21:25 [tantek] oops sorry for the acronym. I used to use Google Talk (the original chat app, when that was a thing) to post to Twitter and read others Tweets
# 21:26 mahboubine although I don't think I am ready just yet to start posting to my site from irc

# 22:31 [Al_Abut] Just scrolled back to realize youβre probably joking π€¦ but Iβm really curious about the productivity use cases.
# 22:38 [tantek] [Al_Abut] there are very few productivity use-cases that require 3D (lol productivity UIs being stuck in the 1990s, Google Apps etc.) or that require that level of privacy.

# 23:28 aaronpk and for a totally different group of nerds, camera brands π
# 23:29 [tantek] I feel like such a list of top 10 nerdfight topics would make a good canonical blog post
# 23:29 [tantek] like something to quickly cite whenever a convo descends into such a fight
# 23:30 [tantek] wow, HN getting more bitter from 2016-2024? I'm shocked π
# 23:33 Loqi friendly reminder [tantek], it looks like this conversation is getting pretty technical (emacs, frameworks), can you take it to #indieweb-dev?
# 23:34 [tantek] ok will take the nerdfight topic discussion to #indieweb-dev
