examples:
#
mahboubine
> I am planning to make a neocities site that's super colorful and old school (despite having a regular site)
#
mahboubine
> I installed RSS guard and added my favorite blogs, if I get everything I need I may stop browsing social media all together
#
mahboubine
> I've joined an old school forum
#
mahboubine
the forum is https://forum.melonland.net/ it feels very silly and childish but I like it

Why do they not show the tower?

What's the best language/framework to make an indieweb website
#
mahboubine
Currently I am implementing webmentions in my blog built with react & nextJS. I am looking to rebuild the site with something else
#
Loqi
hey mahboubine, I don't mean to be a bother, but framework, React seems like a better conversation for #indieweb-dev
#
mahboubine
yes, I keep forgetting, I'll keep that in mind
#
capjamesg
Will answer in #indieweb-dev.

sebbu what was the indieweb relevance of the missing tower? Otherwise we usually try to post informal links like that in #indieweb-chat

what is BridgyFed?
#
Loqi
Bridgy Fed connects IndieWeb sites with Mastodon & other fediverse instances, allowing users on those networks to follow your IndieWeb site, including receiving notifications, reading, and replying to your posts https://indieweb.org/bridgyfed

What about hosting an open Discord room in which people can share when they make coffee?
#
capjamesg
May be an interesting anchor for people to serendipitously meet that may not otherwise.
#
capjamesg
Context that wasn't documented: The idea of livestreaming making coffee has come up twice this week.

There was someone in Japan that actually did that during the pandemic. A few times a week he'd just livestream a feed from his coffee shop in my old neighborhood and you'd see him roasting beans or cleaning a grinder before business hours and then he'd be running back and forth outside to make orders and serve people -- no one was allowed inside due to the health unknowns at the time.
#
aaronpk
i don't really want to tie this to discord
#
[tantek]
same tbh. and perhaps -> #indieweb-meta
#
starrwulfe
Matrix FTW
#
[tantek]
starrwulfe do you use Matrix with your personal website?
#
starrwulfe
Nope. At least not yet. I was investigating Matrix comments at one point but decided to work on getting Webmentions, ActivityPub and ATProto going first.
#
mahboubine
[tantek]: how would you use matrix in a site?
#
[tantek]
starrwulfe, makes sense
#
[tantek]
mahboubine, there is a time-honored history of folks using chat (whatever service or standard) as a UI for posting to their personal websites, and in some cases seeing replies/notifications, and in others as a reader!
#
[tantek]
e.g. all the ways that aaronpk used IRC for/with his website in 2015: https://aaronparecki.com/2015/08/29/8/why-i-live-in-irc could be ways to use Matrix with your personal website today

Mahboubine -- Long range I'd like to use Matrix (and Telegram) to post to my site and get notifications. Perhaps even reply to comments, all as an IM for myself. Not necessarily thinking about outward-facing comminications though

yeah I forget that. I em-dash all the time elsewhere.
#
[aciccarello]
A slack bot for posting to my website sounds intriguing
#
[tantek]
Twitter used to fully support posting and reading via XMPP. it was glorious
#
sknebel
I use an IRC bot for notifications
#
starrwulfe
That probably means ATProto will do it at some point. I can kinda do this with ActivityPub now actually.
#
Loqi
hey [tantek], starrwulfe: it seems like this conversation is more appropriate for #indieweb-dev (XMPP, ActivityPub)
#
mahboubine
sounds very interesting
#
[tantek]
oops sorry for the acronym. I used to use Google Talk (the original chat app, when that was a thing) to post to Twitter and read others Tweets
#
mahboubine
although I don't think I am ready just yet to start posting to my site from irc

Just scrolled back to realize you’re probably joking 🀦 but I’m really curious about the productivity use cases.
#
[tantek]
[Al_Abut] there are very few productivity use-cases that require 3D (lol productivity UIs being stuck in the 1990s, Google Apps etc.) or that require that level of privacy.

JS frameworks/libraries

friendly reminder [tantek], it looks like this conversation is getting pretty technical (emacs, frameworks), can you take it to #indieweb-dev?
