That's too bad. Would definitely love to roll it back a few versions.
#

Still flashing back to the time when you went to a static page of links on Yahoo to find something.
#
capjamesg
You can re-make that experience!
#
to2ds
I'm trying.

Haven't checked but wondering if the Internet Archive has some of the early Yahoo pages.

I'm a big fan of HTML 2.0 https://tilde.club/~artlung/
#
[Joe_Crawford]
And those static HTML Yahoo! pages were built in Perl. Researched back in 2021: https://webdevelopmenthistory.com/1994-perl-yahoo/

When I signed up it was u:p and when I went back to look at it a long time later they moved to ssh keys. I emailed root @ tilde club with a key and got a working reply under 2 hours layer

[Joe_Crawford] - Didn't know the Yahoo pages were dynamic. Figured they'd might have been using Perl as a static page generator or something.
#

HTML 2.0 was cool.

Histories of the tech at the time worth a look. Way way better tech available now. No way to go backward, but we can always learn from that past.

What is everyone doing with their websites?

It looks like we don't have a page for "everyone doing with their websites" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "everyone doing with their websites is ____", a sentence describing the term)

I haven’t done a long read in ages, so I shall continue not to do that and instead potter around in the code. At the moment the special top level pages (about, publications, blogroll, etc.) are all special cases, but I’d like to gather those together to handle them all the same way. The static site builder is graph based and _largely_ config driven, but that means it’s also

Otherwise, notes notes notes. My POSSE flow is really good, so I should use it more.

hey [qubyte]: can you move the tech talk (blob, Micropub) to #indieweb-dev to keep this channel more inclusive and inviting?

Hey there! I’m up today. What I’m tinkering with this weekend: finish an introductory tutorial on how to draw graphics with CSS.

I’m inspired by the style of these tutorials:

Each page has interactive widgets like http://brilliant.org, which is beyond my javascript skills, so I’ll probably just embed codepen snippets instead.

hey [Al_Abut]: we try to keep dev talk (CSS, codepen, JavaScript) out of this channel, can you move to #indieweb-dev?

Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Vice" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Vice is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
Vice was a Canadian online publisher which went through a series of successive bad strategies with [[social media]] until it imploded in early 2024: https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/24/anti-posse/
#
[Al_Abut]
It’s mostly dead, a ghost ship sailing in name only.
