[Tom_Nowell]Hi everyone I'm new to IndieWeb! I don't know why it's taken me so long to find it - I heard Jamie Tanna mention it on the Changelog podcast (at 1.5x) and I thought "I have a website too!!! It's not very good, but it's mine!" :D - https://tomnowell.com
LoqiHomebrew Website Club is a growing world-wide network of meetups for everyone who wants to take back their web experience from social media silos, and own their online identities & content, or just want support with blogging! https://indieweb.org/hwc
[snarfed]morning all! status update on launching web <=> Bluesky support in Bridgy Fed: right now they have a quota of 10 users per federated server, so I still can't actually open it up to everyone quite yet
real_devastatia[tantek]: The closest notion I have to spring cleaning is refactoring the whole kit and kaboodle once all of the core features are in place. People who utilize the tutorial I'm writing will have a much better website than I have, to my chagrin.
lazcorpmandaris IKR? I wrote a whole IndieWeb Blog Carnival blog post only to find out I wouldn't be asked by capjamesg what I'd done on my site this week! ;)
[tantek]I know! Here I go and update my auto-linking on my website of @-mentions and @-@-mentions this past Sunday and I have no opportunity to brag about it to folks on Zoom 😂
lazcorp@mandaris, very kind of you to ask! By coincidence this week I wrote a blog post for the March IndieWeb Blog Carnival, the theme of which is "Accessibility in the Small Web", and I wrote about the limitations (and alternatives to) alt text for complex images, which you can read at https://www.lazaruscorporation.co.uk/blogs/artists-notebook/posts/complex-images
lazcorpcapjamesg - ah yes, I read them. I particularly liked the one on moderating HWC meetings, and balancing between technical and more general discussion
real_devastatiaA few months ago, tracydurnell[d] introduce me to a phrase - "learned helplessness" - that has stuck in my mind. Now I see the phrase popping up every so often. This time, it's in reference to beginners using ready-made templates to launch their own websites. https://devastatia.com/now-theyre-whining-about-templates
real_devastatiaI thought it might be a term from market research or some related field. I think I have the gist of it. I'm specifically interested in why so many Internet users seem to be affected by it.
real_devastatiaIt just strikes me as bizarre that, in 30 years, we've gone from everybody itching to make their own website to most people being scared, disinterested, or what have you.
