I can see the appeal of automated cross-posting if you post a ton, like daily. I’m such a nerd about crafting each post to be unique to each platform though that I stick with manual copypasta instead.
#
[Al_Abut]
Maybe a good motivator to post more often and make it hurt enough manually to make it worth automating 😂
#
gRegor
I like the semi-manual approach. There were times I was doing that for most of my tweets and I think it made me more thoughtful about what I post. I think that's similar with my Mastodon usage now.
#
cophee
that's an interesting point!
#

I haven't really used decentralised social media that much–I don't really use social media at all too much these days d:
#
cophee
but i might start again on something like pixelfed since insta was the only social media i used that much
#
[Al_Abut]
I tried but PF kept having errors and losing stuff :/
#
[Al_Abut]
I’ve been experimenting with boosting my Threads posts on Mastodon because I really like how Threads handles media, but even that depends on whether I’ve used a hashtag or not
#
gRegor
A downside is I'm less conversational on Mastodon since it takes more work. I'm making baby steps, though. :)
#
[tantek]
The only POSSE customizing I did was editing the start of my posts to get enough before the break into POSSE text tweets, and sometimes curating the first four photos of a multi photo post also for Twitter multi photo post
#
gRegor
Though it is cool that I get mentions back on my site, so I saw when [Al_Abut] pinged me in a conversation with Reilly

I think it's ok to not feel compelled to reply to every reply on Mastodon
#
[tantek]
And certainly not feel compelled to reply to others top posts
#
[tantek]
Once I stopped doing that on Twitter I realized it was actually more draining than rewarding
#
[tantek]
It's one of the reasons I like "likes". It's a way to give someone a nod without feeling like you have to open up a whole convo
#
cophee
[Al_Abut]: ahhh that sucks
#
cophee
I agree with what [tantek] says, I feel like social media makes us feel obligated to do things that other people probably don't mind too much
#
cophee
I think I feel less obligated to reply to replies compared to direct messages

Are there any IndieWeb events you wish existed that don't currently exist (i.e. pop ups on specific topics, series like Front End Study Hall)?

everything's brokennnn
#
sknebel
@cophee quite possible, but you should be able to excempt your endpoint from the "bot detection" stuff (or turn that off globally)
#
sknebel
ah nvm, has to be globally probably
#
sknebel
because it will possibly also hit fetches to verify

Hey [Paul_Robert_Ll], did you ever get Sunlit working wit IndieKit? I saw https://github.com/microdotblog/sunlit/issues/124, and I’m having similar problems setting it up for http://www.byjp.me (Getting to my indiekit instance works great, I can get redirected back to sunlit too — but sunlit doesn’t seem to _do_ anything wit it). If you’re still having difficulty too I’ll revive the thread 🙂

↩️ Very cool! And I love his books — though I’m still awaiting https://www.jasperfforde.com/grey/grey1.html book #2 😭

↩️ That page is great! His books are excellent too — I thoroughly enjoyed Shades of Grey and the “Thursday Next” series (starting with “The Jane Eyre Affair”)

capjamesg: It was one of my favorite things at SD IndieWeb camp when I was expounding on handwritten sites and saying how impressed I was 20+ ago seeing Jeff Bridges' site -- I think it was [chrisaldrich] who told me it was already in the wiki https://indieweb.org/handwriting !

[byJP] Not sure I ever got Indiekit working with Sunlit. It previously worked with the http://Micro.blog iOS app, but that has repeatedly, and is currently, broken. I looked into debugging the app and making a PR (against the http://Micro.blog app), but it involves wrestling several different tangled technologies and dependencies, given it’s an iOS app built with React Native. Super frustrating, tbh.
