magic link requires email?
#
pcarrier
not always. eg whatsapp magic links.
#
doesnm
want indepent auth provider without password :(
#
pcarrier
I also make magic links for people who've lost access to their passkeys on xmit.co and transmit them as securely as possible
#
doesnm
irl meeting? XD
#
pcarrier
in one instance, yes!

Most folks who log on to my site do it via email + magic link, although there’s a fair number of folks who auth via mastodon. Basically nobody does it by indieauth except me though.
#
[fluffy]
Twitter used to be the most popular but when they made the API changes my auth thingy broke and I haven’t felt like fixing it.

i wannya have indieauth on my website for private posts but implementing it all sounds annoying :( (because i'd want relmeauth too......)
#

all of my friends have github actually ig. i could just, do github auth,,, i already use that to authenticate myself,,,
[qubyte], [fluffy]1 and bret joined the channel
#
[tantek]
I agree with the observation that for friends, it helps to have github auth (formerly twitter auth)
[KevinMarks] joined the channel
#
[fluffy]1
yeah I really should add github to authl, at least
#
[fluffy]1
and relmeauth for that matter

[mattl]
what is webdav
#
Loqi
WebDAV is an HTTP-based protocol used to create and edit files on a server that has some IndieWeb adoption https://indieweb.org/WebDAV

ok, I added "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-social-faq" to the "See Also" section of /site-deaths https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=97321&oldid=97320

[snarfed]
(not a surprise I guess, since they heavily deprioritized it a while ago)

I think I want to move away from my mastodon instance and move to something under my own identity.
#
[snarfed]
[mattl] I have a bridge to sell you 😎
#
[mattl]
does it support DMs? I seem to get a lot of DMs on Mastodon.
#
[snarfed]
no, sorry
#
[snarfed]
I wonder if http://micro.blog does. I suspect no
#
[mattl]
No, I don’t think it does.
#
[snarfed]
otherwise you may like https://masto.host/
#
[mattl]
Not a problem, I have an email address.
#
[mattl]
okay, going to try and use bridgy fed for my Mastodon stuff 🙂
#
[mattl]
snarfed: no way to get [mattl]@mat.tl?
#
catgirlin.space
there is
#
catgirlin.space
[snarfed] will that break stuff if i change it after already using bridgy fed?
athan joined the channel
#
[mattl]
awesome!
#
[mattl]
now i need to figure out how to point bridgy fed at my http://micro.mat.tl for posts
#
[snarfed]
http://catgirlin.space do you mean, if you start using BF as [domain]@web.brid.gy, and then later switch to [domain]@[domain]?

Loqi

#
[tantek]
[snarfed] I have that same question for BF / Bluesky
#
[snarfed]
it won't break anything, but they're two different fediverse identities
#
[snarfed]
[tantek] do you mean, if you eventually switch your bridged Bluesky handle from http://tantek.com.web.brid.gy to just http://tantek.com?
#
[tantek]
correct!
#
[snarfed]
BF doesn't support that yet, but when it does, it'll be the same account
#
[snarfed]
unlike fediverse
#
[tantek]
how do I "rel=me" consolidate those identities?
#
[tantek]
automatically?
#
[tantek]
without having to directly manipulate any BF UI?
#
[snarfed]
I don't think it's possible for Bluesky, they don't have profile links
#
[snarfed]
for fediverse, I guess to/from https://fed.brid.gy/web/tantek.com ? lol this was the weird GH issue we looked at a bit ago
#
[snarfed]
oh wait no

#
[tantek]
I think I have that already on my home page and that got me my green checkmark on mastodon?
#
[snarfed]
...but that will make your fediverse identity @micro.mat.tl@...
#
[mattl]
Yeah, I need to link to it somehow… I have an RSS feed, I guess I can link to that on http://mat.tl
#
Loqi
[preview] Dr. Matt Lee
#
[snarfed]
sure, or serve your posts or redirects to them on http://mat.tl, and then send wms for them to BF
#
Loqi
[preview] Dr. Matt Lee
#
[mattl]
Yeah, I’m weird about it but I really like my homepage to be free to clutter.. http://micro.mat.tl is just my http://micro.blog site
#
[snarfed]
not weird at all, that's the beauty of indieweb, everyone gets to present themselves online however they like
#
[mattl]
okay so https://mat.tl has a <head> link to my RSS feed now…
#
[mattl]
<link rel=“alternate” href=“https://micro.mat.tl/feed.xml” type=“application/rss+xml” title=“Dr. Matt Lee (mattl)“>
#
[mattl]
Does that look good?
#
Loqi
friendly reminder [mattl], that's a lot of dev jargon! RSS, XML... can you move to #indieweb-dev?

#
catgirlin.space
[snarfed] i mean moving from catgirlin_space0[d]catgirlin_space0[d] to @catgirl@catgirlin.space
#
catgirlin.space
oh, thanks discord,,,,,,
#
catgirlin.space
@\catgirlin.space@\catgirlin.space
#
[snarfed]
same answer, yes, that's a different fedi identity
#
[snarfed]
theoretically it should be doable under the same actor id, but in practice most fedi software chokes and stubbornly (and technically against the AP spec) insists that they're different
#
catgirlin.space
hm okii, i will consider doing that then maybe,,,,
#
catgirlin.space
yeah i have a friend who did some weird stuff with a db (i think sharkey?) to see what changing a username would cause lol
#
catgirlin.space
and every other instance just. broke.
#
Loqi
[preview] [snarfed] Sigh. Under the covers, BF uses Bluesky DIDs in AP actor ids, eg `https://bsky.brid.gy/ap/did:plc:3ljmtyyjqcjee2kpewgsifvb`, not handles. The original hope/goal there was that we wouldn't need "migrations" at all, since the actor id stays the same ac...
