Is there any simple application to publish notices and images like timeline from Indie Web?

Jean maybe a simple static blog generator like Jekyll?

[tantek]
magni, unfortunately (nearly?) no static blog generators are "simple" in that they nearly all require learning/using a /CLI. See /SSG for more details.

what is getting started
#
Loqi
🎉 Get started on the indieweb by connecting with the IndieWeb community, getting a personal domain, a place for your content, and setting up your home page and other IndieWeb essentials https://indieweb.org/Getting_started
#
[tantek]
Jean, the relatively "simple" applications/services that all support publishing notes and images are listed here: https://indieweb.org/Getting_Started#IndieWeb_Services
#
pcarrier[d]
[tantek] I'd say that's a case of simple vs easy 😉
#
[tantek]
No, nothing simple about something that relies on a CLI
#
[tantek]
nor easy
#
[tantek]
Jean, if you're comfortable with installing and maintaining a CMS, there are a bunch more options for notes and images. However I wouldn't call any of them "simple": https://indieweb.org/CMS
#
[snarfed]
or first we should probably recommend http://micro.blog
#
[snarfed]
esp for such a high level question
#
[tantek]
[snarfed] http://micro.blog is one of the services at the link I posted first
#
[snarfed]
true! good point
#
[tantek]
I'd rather recommend a list like "services" that includes http://micro.blog (right at the top) rather than telling people to (implicitly only) check out http://micro.blog

[tantek] "nothing simple" is untrue. most CLIs are simple(r than their graphical counterpoints) by one of the word's definitions: "2 plain, basic, or uncomplicated in form, nature, or design; without much decoration or ornamentation". which doesn't make them easy to use or a good recommendation for most people.
#
[tantek]
I think you might be looking for "minimalist" which is very different from "simple"
#
pcarrier[d]
no, I'm not. I just gave a definition for the former not the latter. I've also had people smarter than me nitpick at the word and arrive at a similar perspective (eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxdOUGdseq4)

(FWIW my dictionary defines minimalist by referring to minimalism, then minimalism in terms of simple)

I would say most CLIs, certainly every SSG I have seen is not "simple" from the mere characteristic that they are easily forgettable (how to use). Whereas a "simple" thing would be like a microwave, you walk up to it, even never seen one before, and you would understand how to use it
#
[tantek]
that's simple.
#
pcarrier[d]
that's intuitive
#
pcarrier[d]
wood and a box of matches have fewer parts and requirements, they're simpler. even if you'd have no idea what to do with them without training.
#
[tantek]
nope, first line of http://enwp.org/Simple: "Something easy to understand or explain seems simple" fits quite well
#
[schmarty]
sounds like #indieweb-cafe chat
#
[tantek]
I'd say generic dictionaries are bad at this kind of nuance, especially in practice, so not a great source tbh
#
[tantek]
anyway yes, as [schmarty] is nudging us, I will say there are no simple SSGs
#
Loqi
hey [tantek], we try to keep dev talk (SSG, SSGs) out of this channel, can you move to #indieweb-dev?

sad day, I don't plan to fight the YouTube bot detection arms race, so I think the time has come to turn down huffduff-video https://github.com/snarfed/huffduff-video/issues/52#issuecomment-2369160227

[preview] [snarfed] OK all. I don't plan to fight the bot detection arms race, so I think the sad conclusion here is that I turn down huffduff-video, point people to PodQueue, and let others who want to self-host do that. I'll plan to do that soon. It's had a good al...

[schmarty]
yt-dlp is what we're using. they're trying a patch to pass along a new kind of token that youtube is setting with apparently mixed results.
