[preview] Home » City Guide Sunset Saying goodbye to Foursquare City Guide We have made the tough decision to sunset the City Guide app on December 15, 2024, with the web version following suit in early 2025. But, don’t worry! Foursquare ...
#

So it sounds like they're focusing on Swarm, which is confusing because I thought Foursquare is what made all the money

Ok so Swarm is ok but the Foursquare app is shutting down?
#
[tantek]
Huh not sure how to document this
#
aaronpk
I'm definitely concerned because I thought the whole point was Swarm gamified data entry that they then sold as Foursquare
#
[tantek]
I think they're still selling the backend data stream. It's just the Foursquare consumer app that's being shut down it seems
#
aaronpk
I guess that is fine with me then
#

Does make me seriously consider re-prioritizing having my website be the canonical source of my checkins instead of PESOS tho
#
[tantek]
Do you PESOS your venues too? That might be the key part to get working first
#
[tantek]
Presumably your existing personal site venues archive would give you 95% of what you need

Here’s an app promising to copy tweets to blue sky. Silo to Slio copy. https://blueark.app/en-us/
#
[Joe_Crawford]
The way I read the Foursquare page Swarm is unaffected and location editing will continue to be available.

TIL: https://w3c.social/settings/featured_tags — how do people pick their "featured hashtags" to show on their profile? and does anyone do this for their personal home page as well?
#
[tantek]
(insert your masto server for the w3c.social above)

well that's enough to start a feature page
#
[tantek]
what are featured tags
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "featured tags" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "featured tags is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
featured tags is a feature of personal and group publishing sites that allow the author to choose a small number of [[hashtags]] to display on their home page, profile page, or [[tags page]].
#
[tantek]
featured tags << IndieWeb Example: {{aciccarello}}: https://www.ciccarello.me/posts/tags/
#
Loqi
ok, I added "IndieWeb Example: {{aciccarello}}: https://www.ciccarello.me/posts/tags/" to a brand new "See Also" section of /featured_tags https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=97873&oldid=97872
#
[tantek]
featured tags << Software example: [[Mastodon]], e.g. lower right corner (bottom of right column) of https://xoxo.zone/@artlung/ on desktop web display

If we (someone?) made an IndieWeb 2025 calendar, what would the images show? And what IndieWeb "holidays" would be on the months?

To be fair to Loki, hero images could also menu pics at the local sub shop.

I got it - we have 11 principles and there are 12 months! We could months 1-11 on the principles, accompanied by the appropriate image from https://indieweb.org/banner_image#IndieWeb_Banners and then the 12th month could be something to do with the IndieWeb Gift Calendar!
