gRegorkimberlyhirsh, scrollback: if you're comfortable with a little bit of coding, I've found /ProcessWire to be really flexible for a variety of types of sites, not just blogs. Might be a decent middle ground.
[tantek]btrem, do you use a single Firefox profile on one device or sync'd across devices and no other browsers with bookmarks? then yes. otherwise, part of the point of ownership is actually knowing where your stuff is and mantaining some sense of control over it, rather than have them spread around lots of apps, devices, services etc.
btremAh. Yes, I see. I generally use Firefox, and sync bookmarks via a Firefox account. I assume though that I still have a full copy on my pc somewhere. But I suppose I haven't really investigated.
[tantek]yeah each copy of Firefox you are running sync'd via your Firefox account should have a full copy of your bookmarks locally on your PC, so you REALLY own your bookmarks because even if you lost all but one of your devices, you would still have your bookmarks
LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "own your bookmarks" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "own your bookmarks is ____", a sentence describing the term)
Loqibookmarks are sometimes part of the information about a post displayed on the post itself, sometimes in a post footer, like a total number bookmark responses, icons of recent bookmarkers, or even a datetime ordered list of bookmarks https://indieweb.org/bookmarks
[tantek]gRegor, I like the potential of a hybrid approach between what [Joe_Crawford] has done (the list of bookmarks itself is private) and choosing to send their links to the Internet Archive, hopefully as of when you bookmarked them
carrvo[d][Joe_Crawford]++ I currently email my bookmarks to myself (and now your post ironically joins the pile)! It is, like, the only reason I get an email each month. I'm hoping to migrate it to my setup sometime. Thanks for bringing this to the forefront [tantek]++
[tantek]btrem, not a lot of folks have successfully owned their bookmarks (ironically) so we're missing a page. I could stub one. I started with expanding /oyd
btremSo own your bookmarks is for people that use e.g., del.ici.us. I've never used that service. I haven't really used many services like that. I was on FB once, didn't like it, abandoned it. (I still have the account, I think, but I haven't logged in *years*.)
