gtxwell i ended up here cause im looking for a blog i can use and be free to post what i want but im not good in a lot of things so i guess i will end up using tumblr after trying publii and drupal, and failing
carrvoIt might be useful to create a page that describes suggested features to progressively enhance with (if not already). Like, webmentions might be better to come before that, but when do you add accessibility? And also collecting all the nice features together just to remember.
[tantek]Tried a bit of the features to progressively enhance with the /IndieMark page but it did not resonate that much (or if it did, people were quiet about it) and on the contrary there was a bunch of pushback from folks who had other preferences or priorities for their sites
[tantek]I mean I'll perhaps ask here, who supports having an icon of themselves on their homepage? (I know it's not everyone, because I've tried adding some domains to home screens and gotten lots of default icons)
[tantek]Also even something that "simple" has a tension / disconnect between how people present themselves (icon) for/as their websites or for example, their contact card on their mobile
[tantek]Eg most (iPhone users at least) have a photo of their face as their contact card representation, so if you "bump" iPhones with another, it offers to enhance your name, iCloud contact id (phone or email), and that image of you
[schmarty]there are multiple ways to define an "icon" for a site, too. favicons that show up in browser tabs and bookmarks. mobile app icons when saved to home screen, and of course link unfurlers. these all act differently under the hood, but they also appear in totally different contexts from a contact list or at the top of an iMessage chat!
[schmarty]for example, my implementation of metacrap for link unfurlers is a bit jank, and i am often embarrassed when a link to one of my posts ends up using my site icon (me making a goofy face) appears as the preview for a blog post π
gRegorUnfortunately, Facebook (probably others?) will still try to guess a preview image sometimes, so you can still end up with your photo in the link preview. It's been a while but I definitely recall running into that.
