I haven’t seen the Swarm change yet, but deeply appreciative of the heads up as I use Swarm on my coffee walk each morning, so pre-coffee. Swarm is a sort of background routine and changing that could be a bit of a disruption. Most day’s I’ve been up a couple hours before the coffee walk going through email triage, skimming news, and a scan of YouTube subscriptions.

I’m trying to sort out an option for a decent quick framework for a front end of a database used as a form to managed and update the data in it. Which channel would be best for this question?
#
Zegnat
#indieweb-dev probably. Or if you think it is likely to go very far off topic from indieweb, e.g. not a tech question applicable to web, #indieweb-random

The Swarm changes are so far only a little disruptive. Mostly "just" getting used to UI elements being moved around. There are a small number of new inconveniences. It's like a decent Beta tbh

Thank you for the Welcomes.

I think I posted on early Slack, when it was still tightly tethered to the IRC, which I showed up in on occasion.

Two biggest UI changes that are annoying / slowing me down are: (1) picking a sticker is a bit more cumbersome (and less obvious) and takes longer if you're not picking one of the suggested stickers, and (2) adding people to your checkin shows only a raw alphabetical list now, and no longer shows you "recent" people or "nearby" people

This Slack is tightly tethered to the IRC and logged there! see http://chat.indieweb.org 🙂
#

I’m not seeing much difference in Swarm. But, I mostly use suggested stickers and I don’t have others local to add in check-ins.

People “nearby” was really helpful when I was at meetings and gatherings.

Somewhere along the way my double digit Swarm user id was converted to a four digit. May have been with the creation of Swarm as a layer on top of Foursquare and it didn’t keep my Foursquare id.

No, I would never want the world to end and my site be stuck on a seasonal theme for civilizations thousands of years in the future to discover and think it was always spring

Can't have Happy Spring Flowers without a proper Dead Man's Switch to turn it off in case of apocalypse.

Following up on last night's Pacific IWC discussion of text browsers, I was thinking that I haven't fired up Lynx in forever. I wondered if it was already available on Ubuntu. Lo and behold, it is!

I browsed my site, and I was very impressed with how it handles code examples.
#
btrem
Considerably less impressed with my Wordle grids. Nothing shows up. I'd explain why, but I don't feel like getting rapped on the knuckles by Loqi. :-D

[Jo]
i used to make sure my website looks good in lynx or eww for emacs and all, i dont know how it would look now thom i can check for lynx
#
[Jo]
oh its pretty good actually
#
btrem
[Jo]: I used to do that, too. But I stopped a long time ago. I think it's probably worth picking up that habit again.

See my chatter in #dev about displaying my wordle games.
#
[Jo]
the linked images without proper alt text describing what they do are a problem as always tjough
#
[Jo]
yes i agree! i used to browse a lot with lynx a few years ago
#
btrem
Yes. One problem I see on my site is on pages with only a photo. Like a photo of chervil. There's no alt text, because the page's main heading says what it is. But that doesn't really translate to Lynx. I'll have to think about whether and how to rectify that.
