[artlung]also, I do think we on the IndieWeb are doing at least *something* right when people can come across "Indieweb" and say this. https://skny.uk/notes/m1/
LoqiPOSSE is an abbreviation for Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere, the practice of posting content on your own site first, then publishing copies or sharing links to third parties (like social media silos) with original post links to provide viewers a path to directly interacting with your content https://indieweb.org/posse
[schmarty]shbst: ^^ even as we encourage folks to publish on their own site, where they have more control, there's no prescription against using silos. meet people where they're at and all that.
[schmarty]digg certainly was a big influence in an earlier age of the independent web. who knows what this (third? fourth? fifth??) iteration will be. i'm not inspired by that sign-up page, haha.
btrem[schmarty]: Nor am I. $5 may not be a grand sum, but I wouldn't call it tiny. If they requested $0.25, I'd call that tiny. And even 25 cents is going to keep bots at bay, if that is in fact their goal.
[artlung]digg was among an echelon of sites whose role was to link out to interesting things on the web, which included many sites which I would have considered indieweb. I consider the idea of digg adjacent.
[artlung]As to silos, and $5. Metafilter is an _excellent_ web community and silo that has a $5 gate that helps it maintain quality levels ad highlights the best of web.
[schmarty]artlung: agreed, it's quite relevant to indieweb! the folks relaunching it have a lot to prove if they are going to be compared favorably to Metafilter, though, haha. so far i only see a $5 pre-launch username land rush!
[artlung]yeah, the single page is not convincing. I'm guessing there have been or will be blogs/vlogs/pitches that have more detail on what one would get "other" than a username. As pointed out by [schmarty]
