[tantek] [snarfed] it's making sense for me, as a writer, both as a shorter form than "https://" and as a way of indicating I'm referring to an actual "entity" (person, org, etc.) rather than just a random domain/link. IMO it's also much more readable as "plain text" since Twitter educated the planet about @-mentions.
