Loqi 🌿🪴 A digital garden is a particular practice of creating & growing an online and public IndieWeb presence that focuses more on topics & relationships than a timeline like blogs, has content of different levels of development, is imperfect and often a playground for experimentation, learning, revising, iteration, and growth for diverse content, perhaps interlinked with other digital gardens https://indieweb.org/digital_garden
#
Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "pretty garden" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "pretty garden is ____", a sentence describing the term)

stonepick I happened to read a post about how to make liquid glass effect with css and svg. It looks great and interesting but lags my browser😂 link is https://kube.io/blog/liquid-glass-css-svg/
#
[Al_Abut] And yes, [jeremycherfas] is right, that’s a teleprompter. I don’t really use it to read words like a newscaster, it’s mainly for just for 1-on-1’s over zoom or recording short demo videos for work. It’s definitely overkill for group calls.
#
[Al_Abut] Thanks [capjamesg]! It was immensely rewarding to take a pic during the demo and have it show up on my site immediately.

[morganm] Just because it seemed positive I wanted to say Ive had and continue to have a pretty great time here. I think when I started I joined the Web chat client, and it was an empty chat, and I just sort of felt like nothing was happening, then I rejoined and got a little more active, and got to know some of the people around, and now it feels pretty vibrant and interesting

mosssystem Browsing through after referencing the microformats2 docs for an implementation, and thought we would see how active the chat is.
#
mosssystem The link to Digital Gardens is already intriguing.
#
[Jo]4 Welcome!
#
mosssystem @tantek, that is complicated. We have a personal domain, but do not wish to associate this identity with it at this point.
#
mosssystem https://mosssystem.neocities.org/ is the site builder I am currently working on.

#
mosssystem https://indieweb.org/pseudonymity The wiki has a stub, though well-linked, on the topic.
#
mosssystem In short, we are a plural system, we have a mind that experiences itself as a collection of semi-independent identities. We are somewhat in the closet about this, somewhat out of the closet.
#
mosssystem We are reticent to share this on platforms tied to our business/professional identity, but are otherwise pretty open.
#
mosssystem Looking through the Digital Garden links, I wonder how many people in this space use a Tiddlywiki or LogSeq/Obsidian export as their primary page.
#
[Jo]4 mosssystem++ that's totally alright. Welcome
#
[Jo]4 Also mosssystem is a cool name
#
mosssystem Thank you.
#
mosssystem This is mostly Richter speaking, with Warden occaisonally chiming in.
#
mosssystem We are a Clojure developer, interested in Rust. We do creative writing, particularly horror and action, tabletop roleplaying games, in the OSR tradition, and some martial arts, Capoeira and rope dart.

Halian is for some reason reminded of a Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Versions fanfiction idea he had
#
mosssystem Oh?
#
mosssystem tests if this works the way she thinks it does.

#
[Murray] You may have already seen the pages on the Wiki for TiddlyWiki and Obsidian, but there are some folks that have documented their experiences on https://indieweb.org/TiddlyWiki and https://indieweb.org/Obsidian
#
[Murray] I know Obsidian has come up a few times over the last ~6 months as people experimented with various ways of managing digital gardens and similar information architectures, but not sure how many of those experiments "stuck"; it definitely feels like a good fit to me, though I'm too deep in other systems to give it a go 😄
#
Halian A friend showed me a method to make ersatz infoboxen in DokuWiki ages ago and I still need to try it x_x
#
mosssystem We keep several tiddlywikis, and used to be much more into logseq before our linux distribution dropped it for not keeping up with Node.
#
Halian I hate administrating MediaWiki but I'm hopelessly addicted to infoboxen
#
[Al_Abut] I finally got into Obsidian recently after years of being curious about it. For me it was letting go of the idea of using it as an everything box or second brain and instead embracing it simply as a nice way of working with markdown.
#
cupparex It's funny digital gardens came up now. I just published the start of a themed digital garden with a blog post as the base. https://crystaltouchton.com/bloomingdigitalgarden/
#
Halian I need to use Fantasia Archive and World Anvil and vvd.sh and Kanka more but AuDHD brain fog says no x_x
#
mosssystem I miss Logseq being atomic down to the block. It makes our usecases easier.
#
[Al_Abut] I like Obsidian enough that it’s one of the motivations for planning a migration of my site from Astro to Eleventy, since Obsidian kind of chokes on MDX files but Eleventy can integrate components into markdown without changing formats.
#
mosssystem Would love to get into more server side stuff, but we are unfortunately broke, and our personal server has stopped POSTing this week.
#
mosssystem We are considering some form of SSG style tool that would build TTRPG campaign documents/toolboxes. Statblocks, a calendar, a map(hex or otherwise).
#
Halian There's Fantasy-Calendar for calendars, but that's all it does

Loqi Generations was a 2014-era summary of a spectrum of potential IndieWeb adopters (beyond the oversimplified developer/user dichotomy) in a series of clusters that were expected to progressively adopt the IndieWeb for themselves and help onboard others; subsequently the community grew, both across generations & in other ways, and is working on replacing it with something more inclusive and up to date https://indieweb.org/generations
#
[aciccarello] What are generations?

#
[aciccarello] Oops, too slow
#
[aciccarello] I think the short answer is no. It's an earlier concept but not something that's being pursued.
#
[aciccarello] Hence the "note" section

obsolete "The first generation of Web people were the ham radio tinkerers." ... every ham radio tinkerer I know avoided the web as long as possible, sticking to ham or at most, usenet. Early web outside of research/universities/etc was mostly just people who worked in IT setting up personal pages on their work servers.
