what is a good resource to figure out how to create a dynamic image slideshow using html/css/javascript?
#
ax562
Basically, I have a sql database table 'cars'(using python flask sqlalchemy) . I query that table to create objects 'usercars'(that holds usercars.images, usercars.location etc). The user can have a list of up to 5 images per object. I have created a working html template to display these images over one another with all other applicable column information usercars.location etc. The user can have multiple instances of 'usercars' (rows) in database table

ax562: it looks like this conversation is getting pretty technical (CSS, JavaScript, database, Python, template), can you take it to #indieweb-dev?

'cars'. All usercars.COLUMNS information are isolated on the page. What I want to do is create a slideshow for each instance of usercars. and display a slideshow of usercars.images of each instance on the same page. What would be the best way to accomplish this using html/css/javascript?

I have a working html/css/javascript slideshow of static images but this would need to be dynamic. I have a python route to GET all image files from the list usercars.images. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything useful online.

re: " Silos don't have "approval before being shown"" some of them do, and in the cases where they don't that's usually not a good thing (spam, harassment, etc)
#
trwnh
i wouldn't call it "mass celebrity use-cases" to say maybe someone wants to control what appears on their website ahead-of-time. back in the day people used to email comments to an inbox and the publisher could manually include insightful comments
#
trwnh
if people want to say distasteful or terrible things about me or anything i publish, i don't want to give them even a millisecond of extra publicity or promotion
#
trwnh
so as far as i'm concerned i would want webmentions to have a manual review process or an extra property on wherever they're stored to be able to say "if true, show this webmention; if false, do not"
#
trwnh
this is separate / after you get it, in some kind of management dashboard i guess

nothing changes from the outside

@aquazarine Hello!

Hi everyone! I found the indieweb a few years ago, and this year I'm curious about starting my own website. Can't wait to get into it πŸ™‚

@kubie007 Sounds good! Don't forget to share once finished!

Hi kubie007[d], let us know if you need any help! I have a beginner guide that's linked on the Getting Started page, for what it's worth.

Thanks! Yeah I've seen your link, I plan to use Eleventy I think, just trying to decide on web hosting right now. Probably get started on Netlify

@trwnh exactly my thoughts. Manually approving webmentions sounds like exactly what I was trying to describe.

trwnh, I think you conflated two threads after the fact. Mass celebrity use cases was about sheer numbers, not approval before showing or lack thereof. That was a separate consideration
#
[tantek]
Anyway, more on "manual approval" here; (feel free to cite your own blog posts on you opinions on the matter)

What is moderation?
#
Loqi
Moderation is the process of holding comments for review by a human, and sometimes a source of frustration when a comment is written on another site that the commenter has no control over, and thus a good reason to post a reply on your own site and POSSE it to that other site https://indieweb.org/moderation

bagelsoverbread Amazing! I love the UI.
#
bagelsoverbread
so glad to hear that! a lot of the goal was to 1) make a reader for video content and 2) make a reader that's a little more accessible than some of the more brutalist open source options (no hate to them, it's just not for everyone)
#
bagelsoverbread
since this is an indieweb chat, I think it's also worth sharing that it's now fully self-hostable in a fairly trivial way, for anyone who prefers to try things out without relying on someone else's database and servers: https://github.com/hfellerhoff/serial

hey bagelsoverbread: it looks like this conversation is getting pretty technical (open source, database), can you take it to #indieweb-dev?

Yeah! A small bit of animation goes a long way on the web.

πŸ™‹ Friday night poll: raise your hand if you'd be down for a photo event in Feb?
#
[Al_Abut]
I'm throwing a feeler out there for hosting another one and getting the momentum going for the series. I just got a ping about it on Mastodon today from a previous attendee.
#
[Al_Abut]
I'm planning on a quarterly cadence instead of monthly, partly to let demand build between sessions, since it's not as easy for folks to jam out new photos or related tech as it is to write a post or watch a movie.
