[Murray]Hi aero1, sure fire away; there's a useful bot around here that can help as well, if you phrase questions in chat (i.e. "what is the indieweb"). For example:
Loqiπ± Get started on the indieweb by connecting with the IndieWeb community, getting a personal domain, a place for your content, and setting up your home page and other IndieWeb essentials https://indieweb.org/getting_started
[Murray]Very nice! Feel free to share a link so others can check it out π There's also a dedicated #indieweb-wordpress channel here, which may be of some interest
toastal, k3can, aldur and lars_the_bear joined the channel; toastal left the channel
[cleverdevil]I thought I'd pop by! I am about 95% done with a brand new iteration of my site. Totally new custom CMS, new design, some really fun features too!
[cleverdevil]I have the in-progress new version in testing at https://dwell.cleverdevil.io (lots of content not imported, as I am still working out the kinks moving all of my data from Known)
[cleverdevil](Try the time machine at the top! And make sure to scroll down past all of the test content to see the mini map move around as you scroll)
[cleverdevil]Data all on disk as MF2 JSON in a hive partitioned directory structure, sucked into DuckDB to make it speedy and queryable, but without having to deal with running a traditional database.
[cleverdevil]I think my favorite part is probably the time machine, but the annual/monthly summaries with the map at the top showing location from Overland + checkins overlaid is so cool too.
CrowderSoup[cleverdevil]++ for building your own CMS! I have been on that train for the past few months. Got a really solid start so far and it's been powering my site for a while now. So much fun to build.
[Trevor_Morris]I saw the radar when flipping to landscape on my phone. Felt a bit overwhelming on a small screen. I donβt think it'll work well on mobile. Is Time Machine missing on mobile too?
[cleverdevil]A shrunken version with small dots and rings on the timeline and then a simple date picker after tapping on it is probably the way I'll go.
[cleverdevil]That was easily the biggest thing that held me up for a while. I really wanted to have a dynamic, queryable site/API, but I also wanted like zero maintenance. DuckDB is ideal for this, but I'm still working on eliminating some kinks. DuckDB and concurrency can be tricky.
Loqifriendly reminder [Trevor_Morris], [cleverdevil], would you mind moving this more technical conversation (database, JSON, API) to #indieweb-dev? thanks!
btremJust got a 404 on a website, with this message: `Welp, this 404 is awkward` `But maybe not as awkward as when you go in for a high five and they go in for a fist bump.` (First line is header, second is paragraph.)
[morgan]The last time I talked about 404 pages it was in a very dry setting debating about whether they should be decorated and guide users back or just basically basic 404 landing pages... Im here for this poem energy
btremI've actually never liked "404" appearing in 404 pages. It seems like an old version of console log, a way for early website admins to see the error code that should have been reserved for the status code but left out of the error message.
