bearina.Regarding YouTube: I found an alternative front end for YY today (called Invidious) but didn’t look into it. Maybe it’s a solution for some of the problems mentioned here so I’d like to share the link to their website anyway:
[Kupietz]I’ve been giving this a lot of thought from the last day or two, ever since [Sophia_wood]++ made a really thought provoking comment questioning giving out links to a website that I myself find unusable without heavy filtering… it’s a good point and it does suddenly make me feel uncomfortable about giving out YouTube links. I made an offhand comment about wishing there was a site like Xcancel which allows you to view tweets witho
[Kupietz]going to Xitter, and I keep thinking, there’s got to be some way. To me requiring a standalone app isn’t an ideal solution, I would like to just be able to give out a link so somebody could watch a YouTube video without all the garbage. No solution yet.
[Kupietz]It’s especially hard for me, because I have a lot of content on YouTube, Including interactions in the comments that I’d like to preserve, from back in the old days and hosting all that video somewhere else would be tough.
[Kupietz]It was a real shame for sure. Old YouTube enabled me to actually build a following and something of a modest fan base just sitting and posting videos from my bedroom. For a while it really lived up to the democratizing promise of the Internet.
[Kupietz]People can argue that you can still do the same thing, but, in truth, not without a production company and a massive budget. Plus they took away the video responses and discussion groups, monetized everything to hell and then should’ve fired the entire experience.
