thamara_kcwkildegaard: to answer one of your earlier questions, I’m not a “creative” or a “programmer” professionally, I just like tinkering with my personal website and a sharing bits of myself there in the absence of social media. There are lots of people here who do that. All you need is an interest, no qualifications necessary.

hyphaI have been developing for a long time and developed my website around 3 times at this point. I feel like it needs to be perfect and extraordinary every time. does anyone have advice or recs to deal with this?
beangalIt really depends what you're wanting to do with it. Myself, I tried a few times to make something professional and proper on my domain which is tied to my email. But after just getting burnt out so fast, I eventually just gave up.
beangalAnd so nothing ended up on my domain, and that felt kind of empty, eventually I stumbled upon the webrevival movement, neocities e.t.c. and decided to just FAFO basically. I used to make terrible little websites when I was a kid, so it just felt right to do something like that again. Its low effort enough that its fun and not quickly exhausting for someone like myself who can struggle with completing projects.
[Murray]@hypha the usual one is to just publish 😄 we've all been there, at one point or another, but _done_ is better than _perfect_, and one of the joys of owning your own space is that you can tinker whenever you like
[Murray]Andy Bell's a good example of someone building in the open: https://bell.bz/, but there are lots of other examples (my site is _technically_ on this, but I'm also a little stuck 😄)
beangal[Murray]: I have been very much building in the open with my page @ Murray haha, I have a little "Under Construction" annoying rainbow gif I put at the top of a post when I'm still writing it, which can take a few days.
[Murray]it does yeah 🙂 and yeah @beangal always love those little marker-style touches 😄 I still remember when most sights had tiny construction signs hanging up somewhere on the homepage, it was basically a right of passage
[Murray]I'll add as another recommendation @hypha, maybe check out digital gardening. It's a slightly different approach to personal sites than traditional blogging; it's more content focused than design, but it operates in a similar vein to "building in the open", only it basically says that no page is ever *done*, just growing
Loqi🌿🪴 A digital garden is a particular practice of creating & growing an online and public IndieWeb presence that focuses more on topics & relationships than a timeline like blogs, has content of different levels of development, is imperfect and often a playground for experimentation, learning, revising, iteration, and growth for diverse content, perhaps interlinked with other digital gardens https://indieweb.org/digital_garden
beangalBut even when using the local address, there seems to be some strange caching problems happening? I took a look into it but I couldn't find the answer, gave up and went to go find more blingies
beangalWhen you're not doing big bulk updates out of some webdev IDE, and instead making minor tweaks to css directly on the server, the caching gets a bit annoying.
[Murray]you should be able to override that locally in dev tools. Getting a bit #indieweb-dev territory, but i.e. in the Network panel in Firefox, you can toggle on "Disable Cache" for local development (also works on live sites, but obviously not a "fix" for most people)
beangalLoqi: Speaking of, I went very blog first when I started a few weeks ago, but I am tempted to move the "Kind of Blog" to its own page and have the index be more garden style? I don't know right now!
[Trevor_Morris][Al_Abut] Shall I host the MovieClub for July? I'm going to go for "A Charlie Chaplin movie" for the challenge. If so, I shall write up a blog post.
[Trevor_Morris]Not sure how to link to my wiki profile with my avatar. If I follow `{{trovster}}` syntax, it just shows `Template:trovster` in the table. 😐
[Murray]I'm a little confused why the whole page is indicating that its clickable, but doesn't do anything? Or is it planned to be a splash page and then click through to an index of some kind?
beangalhypha++ Someone to look into :D Thank you, I also have `dook.dev` which I use for hosting weird little nerd things, dook being the sound that ferrets make when excited haha
beangalOnly thing to be cautious about .garden is that its quite a new TLD, so credibility if you try to do businessy email stuff through it might be a bit low, leading your emails to go into peoples spam folder.
