what is indieweb
#
Loqi
The IndieWeb is a community of independent and personal websites based on the principles of owning your domain and using it as your primary online identity, publishing on your own site first (optionally elsewhere), and owning your content https://indieweb.org/indieweb
#
[pcarrier_com]
As you might infer, pretty much antithetical to social media platforms that own the content distribution on their domains and websites, let alone apps.

[Morgan_M]
What do you do with the data?
#
[Morgan_M]
https://indieweb.org/own_your_data This is kind of an important thing, which is a question
#
[capjamesg]
vansh095709 Thanks for sharing! Many of us use personal websites as a primary place to express ourselves on the web.
#
vansh095709
If users wish they can express their feelings on pointverse also and share their websites their
#
vansh095709
*There
#
[capjamesg]
We’re probably not the ideal audience for Pointverse, since most of us prefer to use tools backed by open protocols that allow us to own our data (like HTML, CSS, ActivityPub).
#
vansh095709
On pointverse also ur data is safe and is in your hand as if u remove anything from pointverse the thing removes from database also and u can also read privacy policy also
#
Loqi
[capjamesg] vansh095709: we try to keep jargon (ActivityPub, CSS, protocols, database) out of this channel to make it more inviting to newcomers, can you move this to #indieweb-dev?
#
vansh095709
@Loqi ok
#
doesnm
seems we have different meaning of "owning your data"
#
[artlung]
You created a silo. And you shared it. And you got feedback. https://indieweb.org/silo If you have an interest in integrating your silo with things like PESOS and export the dev channel would be great. I think vansh095709 you've done what you came to do.
#
vansh095709
In our terms (dev) owning of data means this only @[artlung]
#
[capjamesg]
Our main focus here is on personal websites that we each make (blogs, portfolios, websites for community causes that we care about, playgrounds to experiment). If you’re ever making a website for yourself (i.e. a blog, or a landing page, or a creative tool), you’ll find a lot of people here eager to chat and lots of information on the wiki. But again we’re not the ideal audience for Pointverse.

vansh095709
[edit] Can I try in indie web dev
#
[capjamesg]
Please don’t share the same project across multiple channels. Many of us are already in all of the channels, so the audience you would get in #indieweb-dev will be the same as the people here.
#
vansh095709
Kk
#
[capjamesg]
In terms of finding users for a project, the best place to start is to make something that you really want to use, then share it with friends and see what they think. I have written a lot of software projects and by far the most satisfying have been those I made for myself, or those I made for friends or communities I am in.
#
[capjamesg]
I started coding when I was young too, so I’m giving you the advice I wish I had received back then 🙂
#
[artlung]
https://indieweb.org/discuss#Spam maybe could do with a section describing solicitations to join a site or download an app. People with goods and services do need to find clients and users, but repeatedly intruding on a chat space to do so is negative and unwanted behavior.
#
[artlung]
I have added a section on Spam since this is an issue I have observed several times across the years in this chat

I just deleted them in Slack. tantek or aaronpk can delete them on Discord. You’ll need to file a PR to delete them in the main logs.

clonning repo
#

maybe i could make some hack to prevent such behaviour. In short client doesn't know that message are already sent and tries to resend again

tantek.com
vansh095709[d]: If anyone can use then are you using it? Can you share a permalink of a post you have on/with it? We have a principle in the indieweb community of "use what you make" so it would be good to know if you are following that principle
#
tantek.com
What is use what you make?
#
Loqi
use what you make is an IndieWeb principle that encourages creators to use the applications, tools, libraries, code, designs, documentation that they create, in particular on their personal website, and the counterpart of the make what you need principle https://indieweb.org/use_what_you_make
#

I really like this syntax for communicating backlinks on your own site: “Filed in reading [link] and referenced in Refusing to be doomed [link] _11th August 2026”_

On my website I have decided to further adopt a solarpunk-inspired version of optimism, that seemed broadly relatable to the "refusing to be doomed" theme. I made a sort of stub-like post on my website https://www.morganwebdev.org/posts/optimism/ but I have other stuff on my website thats broadly on this theme. Basically doom and gloom is exploited against so many people, even when times feel gloomy I try and refuse it
