#[eddie]Hey guys, I'm working on implementing my official "collections" in Jekyll prior to setting up my micropub endpoint integration. I've been reading up on the Wiki about Post types. Seems like the goal is "as much as possible" to minimize post types and rely on note with attributes as much as possible. My main thought is to have a note also be able to convert to (Reply, Photo, Video or Checkin) depending on the attributes added to the content type.
#[eddie]that note doesn't have a Title. So if I have an Article with a photo, it will still be an Article type, not a Photo type. This means my collection/post types would be: Note (with other types), Article, Read, Watch, Listen, Event and Meta.
#GWGThe idea is basically that you don't strongly type your entries...you derive the type from the properties

#[eddie]Okay, that's the general direction I was thinking with the Note -> Reply, Photo, Video, Checkin. Is it generally accepted practice to have that expand wider than that?

#[eddie]I could see the Article and Meta merging into the same thing. I think my Read/Watch/Listen might be a little complicated to merge into the auto-discovery type workflow as I think there's going to be a lot of attributes going on with them

#GWG[eddie]: The recommended practice is to add types over time as you need/use them.
#GWGOf course, I don't listen, but I have other limitations to work under. I'm the one who maintains the WordPress plugin that handles Indieweb post types. So I have to work within their structure.
#[eddie]I think that's a good direction. Thinking through that more, I'm wondering if I could boil it down to Note and Media/Action. Media/Action for my brainstorming with the Read/Watch/Listen type, and then the Note would be able to transform into Reply, Photo, Video, Checkin, Repost, Like, Mood, Article based on attributes/discovery. That does narrow it down quite a bit
#LoqiPost or posts may refer to individual pieces of content published on an indieweb site such as notes, articles, & responses, or the act of creating the aforementioned content (present tense), or Posts about the IndieWeb https://indieweb.org/Post_Types
#GWGKevinMarks: That is what I was referring to when I said Post Type discovery

#sebselTo quote what I just wrote on the wiki: "{{sebsel}} displays only the first 50 words of a [[repost]], making retweets full reposts, but articles more like quotations. Since it's always the first 50 words, not a particular interesting part of the post, he still considers this reposting. He points at the whole post, and only quotes to keep copyright
#aaronpkright now my software supports reposting an article, but i have never done that and don't plan to. the closest thing was reposting martymcguire's podcast
#sebselmy motivations at that time where that I wanted the article to be visible, even when his server would go down.
#sebselI thought that was a valid reason to repost
#tantekfinds it hilarious when people quote his own words written on a wiki to debate a point with him :)
#tanteksebsel - in that case it's almost more like a bookmark
#tanteksince you're not deliberately emphasizing that part of the post
#tantekyour "first 50 words" is more like a bookmark-preview or a bookmark-context (similar in concept to /reply-context )
#sebselquoting a wiki about quoting... It's getting confusing :)
#sebselyes, I think that's what's happening here: at the time posting it, I thought it was good to make a complete copy of the post, so I reposted
#sebselafterward, I felt uneasy about that, so now I should change it to just a bookmark.
#sebselI think that solves all the problems I'm having here
#tantekcool, I'll add that then - thanks for the interesting example!
#sebsel(lol, changing this turns out as easy as just replace 'Repost-of: http..' with 'Bookmark-of: http..' in the .txt file of my post :) the display just changes in what I want)
#LoqiA bookmark (or linkblog) is a post that is primarily comprised of a URL, often title text from that URL, sometimes optional text describing, tagging, or quoting from its contents https://indieweb.org/bookmark
