Ok. I am searching once againe for the most simplest way and effective at the same time to implement my favicon. I do not know much about the differences between desctops and mobiles. But I ask myself what works best for all. I would prefer an ico file, thought. And not sure if a favicon ist best placed in the root or html.
#
sketchess
still catching up on the technical progress of the last 5 years
#
sketchess
So favicon cheat sheets can be a bit confusing if they do not agree with each other.
#
sketchess
Any suggestions?
#
Zegnat
If they do not agree with eachother it is probably because browsers do not agree with eachother
#
Zegnat
Most browsers will look at http://yourdomain/favicon.ico no matter what you do though
#
Zegnat
So putting an ico file at that URL is a pretty good step
#
Zegnat
https://indieweb.org/icon#IndieWeb_Examples gives you some examples of how you can provide icons to browsers, as you can see, almost everyone uses a different set of tags. This depends on the browsers they are targeting, and also on if they want to use different images in different cases
#
sketchess
Hmm... looks like this time I will not find 'the' answer. Ok, thanks for the link. I will search in the possibilities and decide what is worth it for me to pick.
#
Zegnat
sketchess it really depends on where you want browsers to use the icon
#
sketchess
Yeah. I will not have to worry about every aspect yet. Easy things first than further development. An ico has to do it for now.

So, Zegnat had an error in his Indie event for next Virtual HWC, which I RSVPed to, so he updated it. And then he manually asked me to refresh my link-preview / the cited event.
#
sebsel
There are updated webmentions, but this was the other way around: the original post got updated
#
sebsel
Would that be a webmention too?
#
Zegnat
Good question. When you update your post you resend the webmentions within. Maybe salmentions would say also send a webmention to every comment so they can come and refresh?
#
Zegnat
And then where I said “every comment”, read “every interaction”, so RSVPs should also get it?
#
sebsel
what is update?
#
Loqi
An updated is a post that has been edited by the author https://indieweb.org/update

aaronpk
i thought this had been described already

Ah there is something under /update#brainstorming

And now my brother deletes a tweet right before I can retweet it, so deleted my failed POSSE retweet too

#
Zegnat
Aah, so it is described as a brainstorm. Seems to describe exactly what I said so that's good. Will add a plus 1.
#
Zegnat
Nobody is actually doing this though?
#
aaronpk
i have a manual command to update the reply context but i don't do it automatically yet
#
Zegnat
Do you send webmentions for updates? That seems to be the important thing, before supporting automatically update on your end
#
aaronpk
yeah i do
#
Zegnat
Maybe add that to the page, aaronpk? That moves the brainstorm to an actual implementation

@matasar @HelloCivil You should try hosting an instance yourselves. Treat it as an experiment, and maybe it will become the tail that wags the dog, like Paypal.

@kevinmarks @cliffordoravec @remarkbox I guess I need a for dummies explanation on how to setup a simple Webmention receiver first.
