schmarty dougbeal: sorry if i muddied the vocab waters earlier. by "apex domain" i meant, e.g. "dougbeal.com", versus a subdomain like "www.dougbeal.com". since most DNS providers only allow apex domain records to point to real IP addresses, and most free hosting only allows CNAME alias records, these two things often don't line up.
