I don’t think many people have done work on that. In my opinion, having to log into every site I want to post to isn’t feasible. For me, this is a solved issue by using a social reader
#
[eddie]
Of course sometimes you just find a post and when that happens it’s not in your reader. For those cases I enjoy using a browser plugin like Omnibear or a native app sharing feature like Indigenous on iOS
#
[eddie]
(I believe the android version does the same thing)
#
[eddie]
The benefit being the social readers/browser plugins are always logged in, and don’t require the site you visit to support the action buttons (so it works universally)
#
[eddie]
One thing I have thought about before is allowing people to sign in to my website in order to see semi-private/protected posts
#
[eddie]
So I don’t think logging in to each other’s site through IndieAuth is bad. Just seems like that flow in order to reply or like seems very complicated

sl007 had demoed indie-actions for IndieAuth at some point, which turns logging into a different site into a two-click thing
#
sknebel
but I've never seen the code for it or more than the one demo

Will sl007 be at either of the two German IWCs coming up?

Looking forward to seeing what everyone's built over the weekend at hackference, and sharing our first attempt with the awesome @auth0 platform. Big shame we didn't get to implement a full #IndieAuth flow, but I think that's something I'll be heavily investigating soon!

GWG
Hi swentel
#
swentel
evening GWG
#
GWG
Swentel, I appreciate your work
#
swentel
thanks
#
swentel
GWG, do the terms/categories work for you ?
#
GWG
swentel, I tested it and yes, it's feeding it to me
#
swentel
awesome
#
GWG
swentel, what's next for you?
#
swentel
that's what I'm focusing on the next weeks
#
swentel
trying to get these in around Berlin
#
swentel
and getting a beta out for the indieweb drupal module as well
#
GWG
swentel, are you coming?
#
swentel
GWG, yes
#
GWG
I am coming if they clear me, so we'll talk
#
GWG
If I were to add Micropub features to the WordPress endpoint, which fun ones are supported by Indigenous
#
swentel
well q=source is a nice one imo
#
swentel
which returns a list of posts
#
swentel
I practically maintain my site now via the app
#
Zegnat
Is that the sort of option that MarsEdit wanted to see too?
#
GWG
swentel, do you use paging?
#
swentel
GWG, yes
#
swentel
indigenous currently supports 'after', 'limit' and 'post-type'
#
swentel
'url' is on the way
#
swentel
but that's a tricky one
#
GWG
Why is URL tricky?
#
swentel
well, I'm not 100% sure about the response
#
swentel
this is something I'd wanted to discuss in berlin with everyone there :)
#
GWG
It's supposed to be mf2 json
#
swentel
ah right
#
GWG
I have been working to fix my incorrectly coded mf2 json for that reason
#
swentel
ok, it's tricky at indigenous level, I need to select the right post-type UI based on what comes in
#
GWG
Good point.
#
GWG
Right now, I am in bug fix mode
#
swentel
for micropub 2.0 ?
#
GWG
swentel, for that and Post Kinds
#
GWG
I need more testers for Micropub so I can troubleshoot the people who have problems
#
GWG
And some of them have problems with Indieauth
#
GWG
So, a third possibility

another thing on the plate is testing fed-bridgy / and hopefully helping out with patches
#
swentel
replies are now working again which is awesome already
#
swentel
and we know how accept should look like
#
swentel
and normal posts too

what is a web action
#
Loqi
A web action is the interface and user experience of taking a specific discrete action, across the web, from one site to another site or application https://indieweb.org/web_action
[Rose] joined the channel
#
[Rose]
I thought that was interesting too Zegnat, though that's explicitly for when you don't have some kind of sync - which websub would be.
#
[Rose]
(I'm in the NNW Slack, good discussion there!)
#
Zegnat
[Rose], what, the aging of articles? Not really. E.g. several of the external servers mentioned (like Feedbin) also purge old articles based on some standard. Aperture might do too.
#
Zegnat
Brent only needs to figure it out for the local use-case and leaves other purging up to the remotes. But if you are implementing a remote (Microsub server like Aperture) you still need to consider this
swentel joined the channel
#
aaronpk
Cool, I’ve had to make decisions like that for Aperture too
#
myfreeweb
purging old articles is a very "traditional rss reader" thing — if your reader looks like an infinite twitter-style stream, there doesn't seem to be any reason to do that
#
Zegnat
storage is still definitely a reason. I like how Brent mentions how not-purging may imply certain things about permanency/archival use that the developer may not actually want to do.
#
Zegnat
aaronpk, have you blogged about any choices you made for Aperture?
#
aaronpk
Yeah exactly
#
aaronpk
not yet no

Anyone know a tool that can restore a QR code that has had a logo posted in the middle?
KartikPrabhu joined the channel
#
aaronpk
Zegnat: restore? QR codes have a bunch of error recovery so they can usually be scanned anyway
#
aaronpk
let me try that again... there isn’t actually any data lost when you slap a logo in the middle of a qr code because a lot of the pixels are redundant. So you can scan it, then take the data and re encode and get a new qr code. Or you can just cover up the logo with made up pixels and it’ll still work fine

Information about #IndieWeb & #WordPress Thanks for sharing information about #IndieWeb & #WordPress, Greg McVerry.  Still just gradually trying out things here. This is a first stab at trying a webmention.  The IndieWeb site… https://mastodon.social/@edtechdev/100896504278887328

↩️ Were you trying to send me the webmention or yourself? Or did you mean first attempt at a POSSE post, a webmention is more I mention https://doug.holton.space/2018/10/indieweb-wordpress/ and then you get a site. Also curious how the syndicated link is to your Mastodon… http://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2018/10/14/edtechdev-were-you-trying-to-send-me

aaronpk, I had a QR code with a logo in the middle but that scales really poorly, so I just wanted to auto-remove the logo without accidentally changing the meaning
#
Zegnat
I ended up redrawing and leaving the covered pixels blank

You can also try a scaling algorithm that preserves hard edges
