[cleverdevil] jacky, I'd say its a bit more than that, as they run it for you as a managed service that does auto-scaling, backups, upgrade/downgrade, etc.

[cleverdevil] Generally speaking, AWS runs things from OSS in a pretty compatible way, too. In the case of MongoDB, though, the project sort of shot itself in the foot by changing their licensing to prevent AWS (or anyone else) from running their open source software as a service.
