A couple of forked threads on modern webdev debates: https://twitter.com/zeldman/status/1113913376009277444 and the quote-tweet as reply thread: https://twitter.com/asanders/status/1114096212171526144 - postponing processing all this for a week or so, but wanted to capture them here for folks to ponder, especially at the various different frustrations and problems expressed (on all sides).

A while ago I found out about a domain which was set up such that all of their subdomains resolve to `127.0.0.1`, which is really useful for testing separate things that talk to each other (like webmention or websub or whatever). Does anyone happen to know the thing (or something similar) I’m talking about?

It’s a lot more convenient than editing `/etc/hosts`, but of course it requires, like, remembering the domain name, and I remember it being something cutesy.

↩️ With webmention we simplify the notification down to "this page linked to your page" and you can use the microformats to know if it is a like, a reply or an rsvp

↩️ Still being able to read all my feeds (thanks to microsub) and then being able to reply to what I read (thanks to micropub) all directly from my same client is amazing. All of this is made possible to h-feed and microformats (https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/s/10iMrL)

↩️ though check your code for the bridgy and webmention not sure why I am seeing that in plain text, you may not have used an html block or copied into a rich text and not the "text" tab...or when time you and I can replace theme with SemPress (https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/s/q3Zw3)

Once you have SemPress add the IndieWeb plugin.. Which links to a bunch of plugins. Activate webmentions, semantic Link backs, Indieauth, micropub. Everything else optional. Do Not install the microformats plugin. SemPress already wearing its metadata… https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/04/06/once-you-have-sempress-add-the-indieweb

!tell fluffy another option is to setup dnsmasq locally to route an entire tld to your localhost. I have all of .test go to my local machine.

GWG, my thoughts on h-measure are that it works, but I am not sure it is needed. It is nice for pulling numbers apart from their measurement units, but any consumer could probably do that manually too.

Scheduled post using micropub a Micropub client where you schedule a reply to your own site. Thus creating a notification alarm

[Greg McVerry] Remember 16:00 towels in dryer, heavy duty. Drop one tab in washer. Hit clean cycle. #pinboard

and then at 16:00 a reply gets sent saying times up

Interesting

I am not sure I would post reminders public. But if you have webmention notifications or something of the kind setup, I totally see this working
#
[jgmac1106]
Ahh. I can post privately
#
[jgmac1106]
Most of #pinboard hidden. Did that bc I had idea for an indie reminder... And so my wife doesn't kill me.

wonders about mf2 for a post available in multiple languages. same u-uid on both urls? same u-url (as one of multiple?) or leave it to rel=alternate to express the relationship?

!tell zegnat Yeah I’d rather not mess with dnsmasq but I’m aware of that as an option. Thanks!

I've been working on my website again. This time I wanna keep a blog. I wanna leave birdsite, so I invite you to join and do the same. I'm using GatsbyJS & I just implemented Webmentions, so I want to test something. Don't look at it yet: http://www.whatsnextforkev.in/yikes/smh
