I am looking for some really inspiring photo post presentations
#
GWG
Anyone have any they particularly like?

#
mblaney
ah. thanks aaronpk.
#
mblaney
what is a repost?
#
Loqi
A repost on the indieweb is a post that is purely a 100% re-publication of another post. The act of reposting is an umbrella term that covers the general practice of republishing another post typically on the same service or silo, but more and more across sites https://indieweb.org/repost

anyone able to answer a Q about IndieAuth?
#
[miklb]
er, SelfAuth
#
mblaney
stops making up his own grammars
#
jacky
what is selfauth
#
Loqi
selfauth is a single user authorization endpoint written in PHP which is easy for anyone to get running https://indieweb.org/selfauth
#
[miklb]
what I’m confused by is can I host that on one domain, and use it for auth on a static site with a different URL.
#
[miklb]
I guess its same idea of using IndieAuth.com so it *should* work now that I think about it more.
[eddie] joined the channel
#
[eddie]
Yeah, seems fine.
#
[eddie]
I think the only restriction on that stuff is how your me url changes. It always has to remain on the same domain, but the domain of the endpoint can be anything

[eddie]: is that a potential test of signing into your own site?

sknebel: Heya! :)
#
sknebel
so you could turn the entire <section id="about"> into your h-card - it has your photo, your name, and a description about you? would only need a link, but you could do just a hidden link if you can't come up with nice reason to put it with text in there
#
dhanesh95
sknebel: I can probably add the link to my image.
#
sknebel
or that, yes
#
dhanesh95
Cool. My understanding was that I need to have my name in the <a> tag itself.
#
dhanesh95
But seems like that can be flexible.
#
sknebel
yes. there's a common shorthand where you don't need to write out the individual properties, but you can do it flexibly
#
jgmac1106
when you say your name in <a> do you mean the rel=me
#
jgmac1106
I didn’t add those to the quick example I just did many people add those there,
#
dhanesh95
jgmac1106: No, I mean something like <a class="h-card" href=".."><img src=".." alt="" /> Dhanesh Sabane</a>
#
jgmac1106
ahh okay, I’ll let sknebel answer you questions he is the true Sensei
#
dhanesh95
I'm not sure if I'll be adding rel=me. Apart from Twitter, I don't really use social media much.
#
jgmac1106
gist I made is a good start.
#
dhanesh95
is thinking of getting rid of Twitter too.
#
sknebel
dhanesh95: look at e.g. the second example on http://microformats.org/wiki/h-card
#
jgmac1106
yes but this is to log in to other sites like the wiki
#
dhanesh95
jgmac1106: Yup, I had a look at the gist. Thanks!
#
sknebel
oh, yeah, the gist is good too
#
sknebel
except the p-name should go on the <strong>, not the <h3> :D
#
jgmac1106
so when you have a rel=me to your GitHub and then then a link back to your site on GitHub, you can login in to the wiki and authenticate with your GitHub credentials
#
sknebel
(since the ", Software Engineer" isn't your name)
#
jgmac1106
ahh thanks, just threw that last edit in there
#
dhanesh95
sknebel: I'm removing "Software Engineer" part in the revamp. So it'll only say Dhanesh Sabane in bold.
#
dhanesh95
And then the remaining part on a new line.
#
sknebel
oh, and "p-note" instead of "p-summary"

sknebel: Noted! :)
#
jgmac1106
sorry bout that, moving fast, I do the sloppy copy and sknebel comes in with the artist eye
#
sknebel
but yes, if you use the explicit labels for properties you can put them wherever inside the class="h-card". the <a class="h-card" href="url">name</a> is just a shortcut, where the parsing algorithm automatically infers that the link is the url, the text content the name, ...

Morning
#
Loqi
morning!
#
jgmac1106
and also be careful cutting and pasting, sometimes my MacOS sticks in curly quotatons other times it does not, never knew why
#
Loqi
Dhanesh B. Sabane, Software Engineer.
#
Loqi
Dhanesh B. Sabane, Software Engineer.
#
jgmac1106
that is what your h-card would look like through a parser
#
sknebel
(I gotta leave now, but happy to take a look later)
#
jgmac1106
ohh and Dhanesh you may want to change your alt text “responsive image” would not tell a screen reader anythign relevant
#
jgmac1106
see you Sven
#
dhanesh95
sknebel: See you later!
#
dhanesh95
jgmac1106: That's cool! Thanks for the links!
#
dhanesh95
jgmac1106: re alt text - I've currently set it to - "It's me!" :P
#
jgmac1106
What is Kaja?
#
jgmac1106
on the website you shared now it is “responsive image” just an A11y tip
#
dhanesh95
jgmac1106: Yeah. I'm revamping the current website locally. Will share it here once I'm done with the changes. :)

minor detail but the word “protected” in the middle of the date/weather is a little strange but that is just a styling issue…this is so cool
#
GWG
When I update data about a photo on my site, should I put that into the photo file itself?
#
[eddie]
jgmac1106 Yeah, need to completely restyle my "meta" section of my posts :)
#
[eddie]
But thanks for the feedback
#
jgmac1106
I would even think about putting it in the title (or as first word in a note) as a big notifcation to readers PROTECTED:
#
[eddie]
Ohhh that's a good point
#
[eddie]
Something's visibility really should be closer to the title area than the metadata area

do I need any kind of special markup for readers or parsers if I have a Read more link?
#
[eddie]
Where is the read more link appearing? In a feed?
[grantcodes] joined the channel
#
[grantcodes]
It's kind of anti microformats ideology (I think) but if you currently want the best experience for readers you should probably have your content in a hidden element.
#
jgmac1106
anyone using details/summary for a read more link? That way data is hidden?

eddie yes 300 character excerpt on my directory of articles in an h-feed

#
jgmac1106
I was going to put my author h-card as an aside but this needs to be inside the h-feed yes? or do parsers…wait…
#
jgmac1106
What is author?

authorship is an algorithm that determines the author of a post https://indieweb.org/author

Has anyone explored using https://unit.nginx.org ? I discovered it last night.
#
[miklb]
I have it working with php after some fiddling, but curious about being able to run some node stuff along side and self-host instead of using Heroku.
#
aaronpk
[miklb]: whoa that looks cool
#
[miklb]
I’m moving non-personal stuff off my main server now so I can really test it out this week. I’m excited about the prospects.
#
aaronpk
Any idea how mature/stable it is?
#
[miklb]
it’s a year old now and a 1.x release
snarfed joined the channel
#
[miklb]
but yeah, I wouldn’t be rushing to use it in mission critical production without a lot of testing.
#
[miklb]
but I did use it to hook up a WordPress site instead of using php-fpm.
#
aaronpk
Nice, I like the idea
#
[miklb]
I really like the per app config in json that you update with an API
#
[miklb]
the config can live in the app directory and be version controlled

[miklb]: yes, selfauth should work from a different domain - if it doesn't I'd consider that a bug
#
sknebel
I think the nginx people can be trusted with relatively new software
#
[miklb]
thanks. After I typed it out and read it back I realized it would only make sense that could be different domains.

I was gonna try re-sending it
#
[grantcodes]
Yeah I see I lot of big jacky faces too 😄
#
aaronpk
so I went looking thru the backlogs for it
#
jacky
I think I can find it on the timestamp alone
#
jacky
but it might be more optimal for me to resend my webmentions
#
jacky
to update references to those who received ones in the past
#
aaronpk
so I found that one and re-sent it to myself
#
aaronpk
looks better now, but it also looks like you're returning your own parsed mf2 json with Accept: application/json
#
aaronpk
so i'm still getting the wrong mf2 because of that other parser bug
#
jacky
that _shouldn't_ be sent anymore
#
aaronpk
the rel=alternate is gone, but it's still responding to the accept header
#
jacky
oh wait if you send it by header, it'll respond
#
jacky
time to 422 that
#

jacky: cool removing that will help for now. The repost markup is still weird with the missing quote and I think thats what's throwing off my site, but I can't find the actual permalink to try re-sending one because the html doesn't even link to itself right
#
jacky
missing quote? like an empty "content"?
#
