I'm getting dangerously close to wanting to build a minimal version of shoebox
#
aaronpk
what is shoebox?
#
Loqi
Shoebox is the name of a future p3k application that manages files and acts as a micropub media endpoint https://indieweb.org/Shoebox
#
aaronpk
I might spend tomorrow rescoping it and making some UI mockups

I have a file somewhere I can send you which is a visual UI (start) for a media endpoint.

aaronpk: exciting! is this like nextcloud?

aaronpk: I'm still toying around with making a thin client for micropub <> nextcloud
#
jacky
dansup: it'd probably be even _lighter_ than that tbh
#
jacky
knowing how aaronpk goes with his stuff lol

jacky: A thin client or a media endpoint?

Zegnat: (cont from #indieweb) I wonder if I’m the only one who feels it’s bad idea to introduce such ‘magic’ subdomains in RFCs; *everybody* that provides subdomains to other will have to know about it to avoid handing it out to someone. Perhaps it could be put under the ‘well-known’ subdomain. :)
#
Zegnat
As they are already going to be using .well-known as a path, I also feel like the magic subdomain is a little silly
#
Zegnat
I get the multple-domains-hosted-by-same-entity argument, but at that point surely DANE (or something similar) is actually better?

Thx! I'm thinking more along the lines of a minimal photo manager to replace Flickr with storing my photos on hard drives
#
aaronpk
I've already stopped uploading my digital camera photos to Flickr and I store them in folders on drives at home now. I just want a better viewing interface to browse the photos
#
[Rose]
Well, then the above is not helpful 😛
#
[Rose]
Not really anyway
#
[Rose]
I’m sure it could be modified, but aside from a possible UI to use as a starting point I doubt it’s of any use 😉

aaronpk have you checked out stuff like Koken, lychee, or zenphoto or do you want to build yourself?
#
aaronpk
i have
#
[jgmac1106]
figured...I spun them up kmyself...and was meh..one more thing
#
aaronpk
i even installed a couple to give them a real try
#
[jgmac1106]
I tried Koken and lychee..admintax outweighed photo ease
#
aaronpk
i think lychee was the closest to what i want, but now i can't remember the exact things that were dealbreakers
#
[jgmac1106]
I still just hand over all my data to Google Photos for now..
#
aaronpk
oh there's a new version of lychee... written in laravel
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah I spun it up cPanel on my shared host has one button install..it was the nicest option I could find, it was more a space issue for me
#
aaronpk
yeah space is definitely a concern. i'm planning on running it from my home server where i have several terabytes of storage available and also hard disks are cheap
#
aaronpk
oh i think one of the limitations of lychee was it didn't handle videos. looks like they've added some video support in a new version tho
