Trying to find a way to archive a reddit comment. Unfortunately doesn't work well with archive.org, gets a truncated version and the button to expand doesn't work https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/fxgi06/not_new_news_but_tbh_if_you_have_tiktiok_just_get/fmuko1m/?context=1
#

try archive.is?
#
aaronpk
did it disappear??
#
gRegorLove
the archive.is version looks like an old version of reddit, which is interesting. full text, though, so awesome.
#
aaronpk
none of the domains are resolving for me
#
aaronpk
"archive.is’s server IP address could not be found."
#
aaronpk
something is wrong with my DNS... "archive.is. 29 IN CNAME ."
#
aaronpk
wait it's not just me
#
aaronpk
dig archive.is @1.1.1.1
#
gRegorLove
I get 212.80.216.76
#
aaronpk
even my server gets the "CNAME ." response when asking 1.1.1.1
#
aaronpk
omg is cloudflare blocking them
#
aaronpk
wait no
#
aaronpk
archive.is is blocking cloudflare
#
Loqi
[eastdakota] We don’t block archive.is or any other domain via 1.1.1.1. Doing so, we believe, would violate the integrity of DNS and the privacy and security promises we made to our users when we launched the service. Archive.is’s authoritative DNS servers re...

chisaldrich I think it is done(ish) will do my demo post in abit, thx for the love, the mf2 still weird it is an h-cite (exact copy of a post) but I didn’t know how to embed an h-cite for the book since it had the same title (p-name) different author..just ignored it for now…no consumer…
#
jgmac1106
may just add a star rating to the fron of each card and then make it an h-review anyways..I do say click to read full review
#
jacky
wow tbh
#
jacky
I actually agree with CF on this one
#
jacky
although me and the CEO are not on good terms lol
#
aaronpk
CF has nothing to do with it other than not doing a workaround
#
jacky
I need to write something about how him and I met lol
#
jacky
aaronpk: nah I agree! like CF could have been like "eh screw it, let's leak" but they haven't
#
gRegorLove
seems shady on archive.is' part
#
aaronpk
ah yea
#
jacky
it _is_
#
jacky
archive.is forcing people to ID themselves is a bit tricky
#
gRegorLove
looking at their FAQ they don't identify who/$$, just "privately funded"
#
jacky
shady shady shady
#
jacky
wait gRegorLove can you use web.archive.org against the archive.is link? lol
#
jacky
archive-ception
#
gRegorLove
haha, probably!
#
gRegorLove
huh, nope. archive.org must be using CF "DNS resolution error. You've requested a page on a website (archive.is) that is on the Cloudflare network. Cloudflare is currently unable to resolve your requested domain (archive.is). There are two potential causes of this..."
#
aaronpk
haha whoa
#
jacky
that's interesting
#
sknebel
that's an interesting one, and I don't fully agree with the "shady" classification
#
sknebel
Yes, they're asking DNS resolver operators to give some information about the person querying - but how often are you resolving a domain but not immediately afterwards connecting to the IP you just resolved?
#
aaronpk
what's cloudflare's motivation for doing that obfuscation in the first place?
geoffo joined the channel
#
sknebel
while at the same time, Cloudflare limits precision of locating users to their nearest PoP. Which means that other services or CDNs can't do traffic steering that's better than cloudflares network on a DNS level
#
jacky
oh I mention shady because of the private funding bit
#
jacky
imho archival services should run akin to a library
#
jacky
_but_ the DNS obfuscation thing is like def one of those see-saw things
#
jacky
like people run to CF for a sense of security but this approach breaks things like this

anyone support unlisted posts and use an icon on the page to indicate it's unlisted?
#
gRegorLove
I'm adding visibility to indiebookclub, using "Visibility: private [padlock icon]" on private posts, thinking about a corollary for unlisted posts
#
jacky
hmm I don't use icons for them yet
#
jacky
but I don't think I'd use a padlock
#
jacky
something like a broken paperclip/link icon
#
gRegorLove
Padlock is private, not unlisted.
#
jacky
ah my fault - read too fast lol
#
gRegorLove
hm wait, might be overthinking... the user has no way to get the unlisted indiebookclub URL, hah
#
jacky
outside of manually adding it no?
#
jacky
like that's something I might do (I'm working on backfilling my posts from my old Twitter account but they'll be all unlisted)
#
gRegorLove
Unlisted is only if you have a micropub server and it advertises unlisted posts, so you don't ever get (or really need) the unlisted indiebookclub url
#
jacky
ah true true
#
gRegorLove
I'm not entirely sure everyone who uses it with micropub understands there's an indiebookclub corollary URL, haha. With rel-canonical and links to your permalink, of course.
#
gRegorLove
The about page describes it, though I could see people overlooking it
#
gRegorLove
Don't think it's a big deal, just thinking out loud

Can anyone please help me add canonical URLs to tweets cross-posted from a Micro.blog? I tried to follow the rel-canonical directions from the wiki but couldn’t get it to work.
#
[KevinMarks]
what's the goal for that?
#
[christopherche]
So that people can see where the Tweet originally came from.
#
[christopherche]
It shows that it came from Micro.blog but does not link to my specific post.
#
[christopherche]
I’m trying to follow this advice: https://indieweb.org/rel-canonical
#
[KevinMarks]
right, but you can't change the <head> of twitter.com
#
[KevinMarks]
what is permashortlink
#
Loqi
A permashortlink (abbreviated PSL) is a URL using a short-domain that expands to a permalink; on the IndieWeb, PSLs use personal short domains to expand to the same person's personal domain, thus minimizing the fragility often associated with shortlinks https://indieweb.org/permashortlink
#
[KevinMarks]
however, linking to short posts elsewhere from twtter can be a bad experience, as people click through expecting more and don't get it.
#
[KevinMarks]
also it can look bad if your link has a twitter preview, as then it shows twice
#
[christopherche]
Whoops. Not trying to post from twitter to Twitter. I’m trying to syndicate from my personal microblog to Twitter.
#
[christopherche]
I set up a test twitter account and the syndication is working but there is no URL on the tweet linking back to the blog.
#
[christopherche]
I did register chch.me for a PSL, if that helps.
#
[christopherche]
I mean chch.is
#
[KevinMarks]
hm, that might be a configuration issue for micro.blog
