also interesting in the formation of a new effort for decentralization, "New America’s Open Technology Institute", as a contrast to the "DWeb Summit" crowd
#
[tantek]
delayed slack there

(on my end)

KevinMarks yes go to bed, and we can chat FF 81 in #indieweb-chat unless there's a specific indieweb thing that's bugging you 🙂

wow this is, going to make me re-assess some of my intl travel protocols (good thing I don't have to worry about those for many months 😭 )

Just going to point out this choice quote for all you "latest hardware" upgrade junkies out there: "researchers point out that while the T2 chip debuted in 2017 in top-tier iMacs, it only recently rolled out across the entire Mac line. Older Macs with a T1 chip are unaffected."
#
[tantek]
late model MacBook Airs FTW!
#
aaronpk
Yeah that's... unfortunate

Wonder if Apple stock is going to tank or if this is too nerdy to catch the notice of the "markets"
#
[tantek]
taking market commentary to #indieweb-chat

what is Apple?
#
Loqi
Apple is a for-profit publicly traded ($AAPL) corporation that produces various products (iPhone, iPod, Macintosh) & software (iOS, macOS), and provides services (iCloud, iMessage, iTunes, Apple Music), all of which focus on good UX, also an IndieWeb principle, and thus are used by many in the IndieWeb community https://indieweb.org/Apple

Re that tweet Loqi put in here last night (https://twitter.com/_/status/1313556748985274368), some interesting thoughts in that thread. Although I always am a bit scared whenever someone mentions DIDs.

@FISSIONcodes
We're pretty sure that @aaronpk has opinions on how this stuff should work. Maybe #IndieAuth "key" signing can be extended or evolved to interop too? https://indieauth.com/pgp

Left a reply anyway
#
sknebel
sounded like they were talking relmeauth too, not indieauth :D
#
Zegnat
Yes. Or at least relme, for their portable usernames
#
Zegnat
That is mostly what I replied to, not the IndieAuth thing
#
Zegnat
The thing they link to (UCAN) describes itself with “OAuth is designed for a centralized world, UCAN is the distributed user controlled version”. IndieAuth is basically saying that OAuth can also be decentralised and user controlled, by enabling everyone to pick their own OAuth server

@jamesvandyne
Blogs linked together with webmentions (ala http://micro.blog) combines the best of the social web today (a…network) and the best of pre-social web (longer form thought, customizations, your own place).

aaronpk
