aaronpk
the header is confusing because it took me a while to realize that's what i was looking for
#
GWG
Maybe we need to rename the headers
#
[tantek]
wow scroll back
#
[tantek]
aaronpk [Raphael_Luckom] there *is* a wiki page on that
#
[tantek]
What is marginalia
#
Loqi
Marginalia are responses to parts of a post, rather than posts as a whole; they are typically published (on another site) with a fragmention link to the specific part (like a paragraph), notified via Webmention, and displayed on the post adjacent to the referenced part (like sidebar comments next to paragraphs) https://indieweb.org/marginalia
#
aaronpk
wow i forgot about that
#
aaronpk
also it's not linked from https://indieweb.org/responses
#
[tantek]
It’s because marginalia is the user-centric perspective
#
[tantek]
As opposed to the plumbing centric “how do I handle this series of bits & bytes in my code”
#
[tantek]
We should figure out how document such things from both directions
#
[tantek]
There are pages for displaying nearly all the different types of responses
#
aaronpk
the /responses page is not plumbing centric
#
aaronpk
i'm sure there are
#
aaronpk
i could not find most of them, and the ones i did find took a lot of digging
#
[tantek]
Sorry that was a reply to your previous statement
#
[tantek]
“Forgot about that”
#
aaronpk
and the ones i did find were also not terribly clear
#
[tantek]
Huh what?
#
[tantek]
They’re all at the most obvious places, the plurals
#
[tantek]
What are likes
#
Loqi
likes are sometimes part of the information about a post displayed on the post itself, often in a post footer, like a total number like responses, icons of recent likers, or even a datetime ordered list of likes https://indieweb.org/likes
#
aaronpk
oh that's obvious?
#
[tantek]
What are reposts
#
Loqi
reposts are sometimes part of the information about a post displayed on the post itself, sometimes in a post footer, like a total number repost responses, icons of recent reposters, or even a datetime ordered list of reposts https://indieweb.org/reposts
#
aaronpk
that's a perfect example actually
#
[tantek]
What are bookmarks
#
aaronpk
there's no mention of `u-like-of` on the /likes page
#
Loqi
A bookmark (or linkblog) is a post that is primarily comprised of a URL, often title text from that URL, sometimes optional text describing, tagging, or quoting from its contents https://indieweb.org/bookmarks
#
aaronpk
so there's no indication of how to receive a like
#
[tantek]
Ah, I didn’t get to that one
#
aaronpk
you linked to /likes a second ago
#
[tantek]
The /likes page is about how to display likes on a post
#
aaronpk
i'm talking about the step before displaying them, that's the part that is missing or disorganized
#
[tantek]
How to receive a like is “just” 1 accept webembtjons, 2 identify likes with post type discovery (response type discovery algorithm)
#
aaronpk
sure, where does it say that?
#
aaronpk
we have a lot of stuff written, and between authorship and post type discovery we're almost there, but the glue between those is missing
#
[tantek]
If it helps, you can add those two steps to a mini section inside /likes#How_to
#
[tantek]
Sorry I guess it being “just” two steps made me miss that it’s not “obvious”
#
[tantek]
Similarly add to /reposts#How_to
#
[tantek]
And maybe we can add an abstraction or those to /responses#How_to
#
[tantek]
What are RSVPs
#
Loqi
RSVPs are the responses displayed on an event indicating who is attending or not, might be, or interested in the event https://indieweb.org/RSVPs
#
[tantek]
There we go, one more :)
#
[tantek]
I created all those plurals pages in a pretty big re-organization a while ago, pretty sure I asked for folks to review them all at the time (as well as asking and waiting a while before I did the reorganization)
#
GWG
So linking to them from a unified responses page is bad?

I've been working for awhile on trying to make my blog the central hub of my online presence taking a #POSSE approach. One issue that I've found is that the #Facepile setup of #Webmentions is getting blown away when using JetPack comments. #IndieWeb https://buff.ly/2Xt7wYr

[tantek]
what are responses
#
Loqi
responses, or interactions, in the context of the indieweb, refer to all the different ways and things people explicitly do to and with others’s posts, from written replies to quick likes, in other words responses = replies + reactions https://indieweb.org/responses,
#
[tantek]
perhaps we need to split that page and its singular as well

Monocle is failing on me because it added https to the beginning of www.kevinmarks.com and has cached the error it got when I put http in correctly
#
aaronpk
It doesn't cache anything
#
[KevinMarks]
Adding a trailing / seems to have fixed it.
#
aaronpk
It also should fall back to http if the auto added https fails
#
aaronpk
More information about what you typed and what error messages you saw would be helpful rather than assuming implementation details 😉
#
[KevinMarks]
I tried kevinmarks.com without the www, then it authed but said the user didn't match
#
[KevinMarks]
I'm logged in now, I can try again with an incognito window maybe

If you are paginating your photo grid, how many photos should you have per page?
#
jeremycherfas
Wouldn't it be viewport dependent?
#
[tantek]
Depends if you scale the size of the photos perhaps?
#
[tantek]
Lots of knobs to play with

jeremycherfas: Its a WordPress thing I query the database

Sure, but the template might present the images differently for different sized screens, no?

I wonder if brid.gy does support PeerTube. I mean it's also just ActivityPub but I guess there is no API overlap with Mastodon 🤔

for account/timeline I mean

bridgy fed? maybe!
#
[snarfed]
feel free to try
#
beko
[snarfed]: isn't fed an instance? I never checked this because I do have my Fediverse accounts.
#
[snarfed]
bridgy fed is a proxy that makes web sites look like their own instances
#
[snarfed]
(and it’s a totally different service and codebase from bridgy itself. i regret overlapping the names 🤷)
#
aaronpk
naming is hard

[snarfed]: I read on bridgy fed but I'm rolling with the WP plugin ActivityPub by pfefferle already. From the technical details I understand that this would not go well - the seat is basically already taken xD

switch to Drupal ;) </runs>
#
beko
swentel: ye, very curious. I will eventually switch. I mean it's a WordPress since 2004. It _has_ to break someday for good :D
#
swentel
wow, that's old indeed :)

I wonder myself. About WP I mean.

Anyone fancy giving https://micropub-postman.herokuapp.com/ a go? It supports (non-PKCE) IndieAuth so should work, and it'd be nice to see how it works for other folks' servers, especially those that have https://github.com/indieweb/micropub-extensions/issues/33 and https://github.com/indieweb/micropub-extensions/issues/7
#
beko
I get "Missing Parameter: me"
#
jamietanna
For those currently trying and seeing issues, it may be you need to be up-to-date with the IndieAuth spec (2020 updates) so it is more interoperable with "normal" OAuth2
#
beko
That'd be a no :)
#
jamietanna
Thanks beko - I think that's because we recently relaxed that requirement - if you add the `me=https://beko.famkos.net/` does that then work?

Hmm, looks like it may be interop with latest IndieAuth :(
#

#
swentel
I need to update the drupal endpoint too
#
swentel
so basically, me isn't necessary anymore?
#
aaronpk
it's a hint from the client, but shouldn't be expected
#
aaronpk
for a single-user site it serves no purpose
#
beko
tricky. mine is currently but I do have multiple accounts (mostly because of permissions) but the Fediverse gave me the idea to group posts by topic and author. Makes subscribing by interests easier.
#
aaronpk
that's a multi-user site then :)
#
aaronpk
maybe the better term is multi-profile
#
beko
probably
#
beko
there were times when the blog was on the edge to become a multi-user site too but it never happened. Good thing in hindsight.
