I am thinking about going back to Mac...
#
capjamesg[d]
I'm going to be doing some Next.js work at work and my Ubuntu laptop doesn't like it.
#
[grantcodes]
That seems odd capjamesg
#
[grantcodes]
The main gotcha with node on ubuntu is that the default apt version is very out of date so you need to install it another way
#
[grantcodes]
But next is very well supported and shouldn't have an issue on ubuntu

I was just on a Zoom call and running the Next.js app crashed my computer 😦

capjamesg[d]: run `sudo dmesg` and look for weird stuff, like OOM killer
#
capjamesg[d]
Nothing odd right now petermolnar. Very useful to know this though.
#
petermolnar
np; the OOM killer is a fascinating beast and can cause rather peculiar fun

capjamesg[d]: heh, that's more of a Node thing. I've seen my MacBook just kneel over with some of my work Node setups
#
vilhalmer
I finally had to upgrade my work machine because I run node in neovim these days and that was too much javascript at once for the old one
#
vilhalmer
dmesg will only show current boot, so if you want to see it right before you crashed you need to look at `journalctl -b -1` for the previous boot

I love anything that involves SQLite nowadays, lol
#
[jacky]
like making apps for like one person at a time make it _so_ much easier

that needs some _more_ downvoting lol
#
[jacky]
wow it's faster than IndexedDb
#
[jacky]
and that's the _native_ implementation

capjamesg[d]
vilhalmer++ Thanks for the suggestion!

SQLite is amazing.
#
capjamesg[d]
So easy to set up, robust for many use cases, and fast.
#
capjamesg[d]
And it has an amazing full text search extension.

tbh the _one_ thing I want is Litestream and SQLCipher to work _together_

[KevinMarks]1 The author of that post roasts coffee. Not relevant but still interesting!
